So the Admiral ad I have been talking about it for a few seasons now and I've been searching online with no luck. We would like to rent/buy a mooring in Port Jeff LI since we spend a good deal of time there throughout the season. I've not been able to get good info on pricing or process to acquire one. Does anyone have any experience with how we can go about renting or buying one?

You could start by checking into the Yacht club there, we stayed there for several days and really liked it

Dean,

Are you familiar with the mooring ownership there? As far as I know the mooring field offered for private ownership is pretty much on the west side of the inlet to the harbor. This puts you about 1.5nm away from the town of PJ. Obviously, there's a list and getting a ball is a challenge, but I would consider the distance to town factor, especially with no fast dinghy. I assume that being outside the main channel it's ok to jump on plane.

We go to PJ periodically and always prefer renting a ball for $50 and stay 2 min away from the town. As you may recall, the last time we've met there, that is the place we go. I'm not sure how often you plan on going to PJ, but even financially it might not worth the aggravation.

I have a mooring in the Cove at Port Jeff. There is no list and it's first come first serve. You have to be a town of Brookhaven resident to get one though, unless you belong to a Yacht club. If you do, you can use one that is there. You have to go to either the harbor Master and ask or see Pete at Seatow in the harbor. Pete is in charge of selling and installing all the moorings.

Dean,
several people on E dock have moorings in PJ. They could tell you the procedure and cost. They have also been generous about letting us use their mooring when it's empty, or even rafting. Of course the new boat doesn't really fit anymore, so we've been thinking of getting our own. We're just behind you in te process. Pm me if you need names of d and e dockers who have moorings.

We go quite often and usually from a Friday evening to Sunday so a stay at the SYC adds up quickly. We don't mind being further out from PJ as we often like the seclusion and the kids like heading over to the dunes. I know the PJ launch does make runs out to the cove on request so that may be a non issue.

Will do. BTW we are moving over to Caswell Cove this season to give it a try. Hope to keep in touch with our old D dock friends though.

Thanks!

You can get a mooring in Port Jeff if you are not a town of Brookhaven resident. If you need any info or contact numbers send me a PM. Or you can ask CTsearay. He just went through the process.

Oh I didn't know that. Are you talking about the harbor itself in front to Danfords? Because I know the Cove and Conscience you have to be a town resident unless you are with a Yacht club. Even then a town resident can bump off them.

Yeah baby! I reached out to Dean via PM

You don't have to be a town resident for the cove or conscience bay. You do pay more as a non resident. And yes, residents get preference. It's on the town clerk website.

Thanks John, I was able to get pricing for our size boat. Based on what they charge for permit and fees, It looks as if I'm better off staying at the Yacht club for the $50 per day based on how often we go over which adds up to about 10-15 nights per season.

WOW really? Now that's something, well don't fret we have 3/4 guys on our mooring but I'm sure it won't be full all the time so just let me know and I'll reach out to them, heck in a few weeks you will know them too LOL!!

Harbor Master could be a **** sometimes and ask if it's your mooring. If you don't have permission or permit you can get a ticket. They bust balls with 3 or more boats tied up also.

Good thing my name is on the mooring, and I know a guy  I'm sure we would only have two on it at a time anyways. With the price of fuel there's gonna be whole lot more trips this season

I've also seen boats anchored off the mooring field over there so that's still an option.

Oh yeah a bunch of river people raft up on a certain weekend and have had like 25-35 at a time. That's CRAZY!! I'm staying in Ct that weekend lol!
