Have a little bit of a dilemma on my hands and would like any suggestions or insight you could offer. I own a 2002 176 and have just purchased a depth sounder (HDR 610P) and will be installing it tomorrow. I have two questions.
1 - I plan on using epoxy to fix the puck transducer to the hull and wonder what kind of epoxy is best? Also any common retail spots to purchase it from?
2 - I am still undecided as where to mount the digital readout. It is standard 2 1/8 gauge to be mounted. Have thought about possibly securing the volt gauge behind the dash and installing the depth gauge there. Has anyone done that or something similar. If not where would be a good location to install it?
Thanks for your thoughts.

OK so I have figured out that along with the purchase of the Sea Ray the guy didn't give me the secret password. Posted the above questions in two places and some looks but not one response... Meanwhile if I want to discuss the latest idiots I have seen on the lake I will get 4 pages a day of responses. I like these forums and have read a lot of great information. I am installing the depth sounder today and have not been able to get one opinion in feedback on the questions. So now I ask what is the secret password or shake that didn't come in the literature with the boat??

redr8er, Maybe no one owns that kind of boat on here other than you ??
So how can we give you advice on something that none us of have or knows anything about it !!.

I completely understand Wayne's World. Only part I find hard to believe is that I also asked about the type of epoxy and any local retailers to get it at to secure the puck to the hull of the boat. Also interested if anyone has taken out a gauge like the volt before in order to put in a depth sounder regardless of the type of boat. Headed to a new lake this weekend and really need the depth finder as sections of lake can have quick depth changes. Thanks for your response!

Not knowing your boat and dash layout I cannot say much other than I would try and find another location for the gauge. While not necessarily and emergency gauge I would like to have good visibility to my volt gauge whenever operating the boat. It can help diagnose small problems before they become larger problems.

Now if you are only talking about a temporary solution for the weekend I would see no problem with that.

As for the epoxy, I cannot help you there.

I'll try to answers them. :smt001

You can use silicone from HD or Wally-world. :smt001
Just make sure it has NO air bubbles in it when you set the puck.

I wouldn't !!. I'd find another spot for it. :smt001

I hope that helps you ??. :smt001

That absolutely helps me. Thank you guys for the information. My dash layout just does not lend itself nicely for another gauge. Attached is a picture (not my actual boat) Any thoughts?

You could use one of these for that extra gauge ??. :smt001.
I'd put it on that hump behind the steering wheel.

That was my thought as well, and external cup for the gauge and mount either near wheel, or on top of dash (if there is room) otherwise how about flush mounting it on the flat area of fibreglass to the left of the wheel? You would just need a hole saw the size of the gauge.

Actually, is that a depth gauge in the picture on the right of the dash, hidden by the top of the windshield? That appears to be a nice place.....

it on the flat area of fibreglass to the left of the wheel?
AHHH, Good eyes grasshopper  I didn't see that spot at first. :smt021

is that a depth gauge in the picture on the right of the dash,

If not the place that has already been suggested, what about front-and-center; there looks to be a spot that will fit a 2" gauge right there in the panel.

On my 175 (different layout), I mounted my depth sounder in an available spot to the right of the other gauges, within the panel. Doesn't match perfectly but the location looks factory, as it offsets the fuel gauge on the opposite side.

I would definately want to keep my voltmeter viewable...

I think your right about the spot front and center. It does look like there is enough room to fit another gauge there. How Would I drill out the plastic fake wood dash cover? And a little worried about drilling through the fiberglass and not hitting some of the steering and wires behind that section of the dash. May give it a try if I can figure out how to cut out fake wood dash cover without messing it up. I will post a picture of my dash shortly. Thanks for all the feedback.

A hole saw chucked up in a drill would probably be best for cutting it. Just keep the speed slow so you do not "shatter" the plastic, or melt it. Same goes for the fiberglass. You can see behind the fiberglass correct? You should be able to steer clear of any cables then. You may want to clamp a piece of wood behind it to protect things once you cut through.

Ok. I have a hole saw and thought that would be good but wasnt sure how the plastic face would handle it. Here is a pic. Its gonna be close but I think it will just fit.
