What do you use to lubricate raw water impellers. I have only one small tube of Glycerine impeller lubricant, enough for one impeller. I need more lube for my other impeller, What else can I use other than petroleum jelly.
No jokes please.

I've heard of all kinds of lubes being used including dish detergent. I personally think anything that with a thicker viscosity would be fine. Anything to slick it down for the first few moments until water gets to it. I wouldn't use thinner, high viscostiy substance like WD-40. If needed, even plain old automobile grease would get the job done.... Just check to make sure water is coming out within 5-10 seconds of running the engine.

vaseline is what I've seen used a lot...

I've seen it all.... liquid hand soap, dish soap, olive oil... impeller lube is basically just liquid glycerin soap

Dawn Dish Soap works perfectly.

+1 I always use dish soap. It's convenient and it is very easy to see the water flow when you fire up the engines because of all the foam coming out of the exhaust. I also agree with the post above about not using petroleum based products.

I would never use a petroleum based product on a rubber impeller. Use something water based, dish soap works as good as anything and won't damage the impeller.

I just used dish soap this past weekend. Works fine.
