I wanted to let the forum know about my recent issue with changing my impellers...
My impellers were working fine, but I wanted to go ahead and do the yearly change. Well the tech called me and told me that the new impellers were put in, but the pumps would not pump water, so I needed to replace my water pumps, to the tune of $450 each. Needless to say, I was less than pleased. Everything was working fine before, but now, I have to replace my pumps??? After some discussion, we both agreed that it just didn't make sense. The next day he called me and said that he had done some more investigating and found out that the new impellers sent from Mercruiser were actually shorter than my origninal impellers. He called mercruiser to find out why, and they said that they were actually having issues with the supplier, not producing the product to their exact specs, and that they were working on it. So, we ordered another set to see if the next set would be the correct size. You guessed it, no. Went to another supplier, and these worked. Now, I am wondering how many other customers out there have had to pay to replace their water pumps due to mercruiser's supplier issue.

Made in China strikes again :smt021

Glad to see issue resolved. Not sure they have to be replaced yearly unless you are putting on a lot of hours.

I did the same thing with a "new to me" boat. It's a good idea. Remove as much uncertainty as possible. In this case, your good deed went punished, unfortunately. I hope they didn't charge you labor multiple times. I did both my pumps and it is NOT an easy task!
