We have an impeller going bad on one outdrive. At an idle the motor heats up after a few minutes. If I raise the RPM's up a bit it cools back down. I have a spare outdrive I could put on, but I don't want to pull the boat. Could I run it like this the rest of the season or will it rapidly decline in it's ability to cool at all.
Thanks
Rick

It's not gonna make the season. At this point you are already on borrowed time. I would fix it asap.

What Shock_Loaded said. I would change them both especially if you don't have a maintenance history. If one is giving you trouble, the other may not be far behind.

Change 'em! Also check the plastic pipe coming up out of pump housing, they tend to melt when exhaust gets too hot. Seen it a hundred times, impellor is OK, but pipe is melted. Replace them both.

Good advice from the earlier posts, fix'em now, you don't want the impeller blades coming apart and making their way into the nooks and crannies of your cooling system. Hi temps in the engine are bad also and can cause problems down the road. Good Luck
