My Yamaha outboard is almost 3 years old. I assume there is an impeller in there that needs to be serviced, right? Any idea where it is and how to get at it?

I've changed the plugs, the drive oil, and kept the moving parts lubed. What else? We're going to be relying heavily on this motor in the near future.

I think most outboards are the same. The lower unit is held on by 4 bolts. The shifter rod has to be taken apart first. It is a 1/8 inch rod that has a CCW and CW connector with a jamb nut. Loosen the jamb nut and seperate the shift rod from the lower unit. As you are loosening the shift rod loosen the 4 bolts and let the lower unit drop as the shift rod seperates. Take out the 4 bolts and the lower unit will drop off. The impellar pump assembly is on top with a stainless cover on it.
Mark the shifter rod so it can be reassembled in the same place.
