Do ignition switches fail ? I have a 4 year old 220 Sunsport .

Sometimes when you turn the key the ignition is dead. If you turn it left the radio works ok. I've checked all the wires, the fuses and the fuse block itself and can find nothing wrong. This leaves me to think the problem may be with the switch itself.

If anyone can suggest anything else I should check before replacing the switch I would really appreciate it. Not very keen to take the boat to sea until I track down this problem. I did think , as a last resort, I could 'hot wire' at the back of the switch !

Thanks.

Sorry can't help on the switch, but sure would like to hear more about your Sun Sport. We can't get the smaller Sun Sports in the US. Maybe you could start a new thread about it in the sport boat section.

Have a similar problem, Check the back of the switch for any dark spots ( if it is brass ) or melting if it is plastic. Sounds like a short, but switches are cheap (identify each wire to the switch before your replace your switch) want to put the same wire on the same post!
