If north on NJ, when do you put your boat in the water?

As soon as the weather allows, the boat goes in for service to beat the rush. Then it gets cleaned the first 50+ day. Once it hits 55-60 she goes in

I find that the later in the spring it gets, the busier the marina gets and if anything need addressing, I risk missing some nice weather. They're still a little hungry in March/April.
That’s why I have the zodiac, if boat on land I can still float.
I know I’m weird but I could give up the big boat long before I could give up the zodiac.

Actually, the sandbar I like is less than a 1/4 mile from my slip, it is easier to just take the RIB over than run the big boat.

Was curious about all this in the event I should happen to buy a boat in North NJ, NY or even as far north as MA. Ideally sea trail in late March and get to my slip on the Upper Chesapeake by mid April.

Not sure I'm buying this but the broker is saying late February is OK to have the survey and sea trial for a boat located on Long Island. After survey and sea trail to just leave the boat in the water because the sea temps will prevent anything from freezing. No block heaters either....

I think his recommendation is a solid 3 weeks early.

I would refrain of that was recommended to me in central NJ without Engine room heat and the cabin heat running. And a bubbler.

It can still get real nasty at that time

Agreed, too early

Agreed. March can be brutal here.

Rarely does the salt water freeze after February but I’d be very concerned about air temp.
