I'm a small boat guy, 26' and I'm happy but from time to time, I think about a much larger craft that would require a berth in a marina and a high level of care. I've spoken with a number of boating friends who are in that position and I'm hearing a relatively large range of costs, from $2k/MO to $3k/mo. I know a big chunk of that is geographical location but I'd love to hear a a range of costs from all of you. I'm speaking not of maintenance, but marina costs, including, but not limited to, dock costs for a 55' craft, power, hull cleaning, a reasonable level of interior care, hull painting, once a year wax/polish and any other mid to higher level care costs. Just trying to understand what the all in yearly cost range might be for a 50-55' Florida kept saltwater craft apart from operating costs and repair. Looking for ranges.
Thanks in advance.

As Dad always said, "If you have to ask how much it costs, you probably can't afford it"

If you say where in Florida you are we could give you a much closer picture. Florida is more variable than other states.

Slips in Mid to North Fl, my est. is $10-$18 ft.... South Fl $25-$60ft each month.
Bottom cleaning is between $1.80 to $2.50 ft.
Zincs.... count them up
hull cleaning $10 - $20 ft
interior care - no idea
hull painting - Depends on paint etc
once a year wax/polish $20 - $50 ft
and any other mid to higher level care costs - no idea

These are just guesstimates

My wallet started aching just at the thought.

I was just talking to my friend (Salesman at our local SR Dealer) who just priced new props for a 50' something Sea Ray.....$40,000

So.....do they take personal checks?

I believe instead of nibral those props were solid gold.

$20k/year for that size boat in the NE.

If i couldnt DIY,I wouldnt BUY !!

Sometimes, math is a thing best left undone...

Your questions are very good. The fact you are asking is very smart in light for the fact there are many boats in bad shape sitting around in marinas with owners who could make the payments but not much else. There is a 5 year old Cruisers 447 in my marina with a black hull that hasn't moved in years. It now looks like a pile of crap. What a waste!

This is what I roughly spend on my 500 Sundancer a year.

My slip is $6250.00per year plus
Electrical about $$400 a year
Service is about $3000.00 a year
Fuel about $4,000 a year
Wax about $1200.00
Say $1000.00 bottom paint each year if you decide it up
**** that brakes about $4000.00
Upgrades $3000.00

Somewhere well north of 20k a year

Steve

I figured roughly $10,000 a year without fuel (you never know where available time might take you)
$4,600 just for the slip and electric, not metered
$280 to trailer and put in,
$280 to trailer home end of season
$280 for shrink wrap. Just a coincidence on Price
$200 paint
$100 wax and wash supplies
$100 wintering, fogging oil, antifreeze
The rest we are leaving available for repairs, canvas work if needed, vinyl work if needed.

This year was expensive, new plotter, new canvas , gelcoat repair, bottom paint.
First full year with the boat so everything needed to be done.

Some of those are rough estimates but that is with me doing all of the work and leaving room for mechanics if needed. This is with my 30 footer so I would say double plus for a 50'

I confirmed the MSRP for spare props for the 58 is $27,000, so I am guessing my buddies' quote was for the 65.

You sure Scott? I thought my NiBrAl props were about $7500 each. Maybe that was the list price on the option when the boat is bought new from Sea Ray? If I've got $27k of props sitting in my bilge, I'm gonna have to stop storing my fold-up bikes on top... :wow:

Paul

$27k may be the Marine Max price but a fabricated pair of Nibral props for a 58DB are about $15k new.

Some people never want to know what the cost is and some of us are annual and want to know exactly. Spread sheets that have junk in create junk out. I consider myself one whom takes care of the toys as I know what they cost and IMHO anything worth having is worth taken care of. You can buy a good car yearly and a better one every two years and a very nice one every three years and that is not in Florida sitting in the sun 12 months a year. If you can find a boat wax that will last a year in the FL sun and provide you with the shine most of us want you've found something that no one else knows about!. I'd say $500 per foot would in most cases still be on the low end side on a well taken care of baby and until your baby goes to college they are a lot cheaper!
