Idle RPM

Remember that when setting the idle at 650-750 RPMs that Merc calls for that speed with the boat in the water and in forward gear. In other words, the engine should have a load on it. Be sure its tied up really good at the dock.

I have visions of a Sea Ray 175 in flames hurtling through a marina with lines dragging dock cleats.

So i need to have someone else drive the boat and i can screw that idle screw in the back until it idles right?

I actually check it today and got it down to around 600 RMP's and it sounds really good. The problem im having now is that when it starts and shuts off it rocks the whole boat like shakes it. Not sure why it would be doing that but that is the problem now.

Sounds like a stuck float. Got a pack of matches handy? You can test for that by holding a lit match...

Nah. Just adjust it, try it, adjust it again.

What is a stuck float? and i don tknow if i want to get matches involved after the Warnings i was giving earlier!

What do i do with the match?

If you have a stuck float, there will be fuel dripping into the venturi's, and maybe even spewing out the bowl vents. It's a pretty obvious problem.

(It essentially means the float is not closing the needle into the seat, and thereby stopping the flow of fuel from the pump when the bowl is full. Since the flow of fuel doesn't stop, the pump sends more into the bowl than is needed, and what isn't consumed properly gets pushed out whereever it can go, which is normally out the bowl vents, and those leak back into the venturi's in most cases. In any event - the engine gets WAY too much raw fuel.)

And I HOPE the suggestion to test with matches was sarcasm.
