Idiots on the ramp...again

We have a public ramp down the bayou from our condo in orange beach. I love to drop anchor and watch the fools on holiday weekends. Thank god we have a private ramp at our condo for the jet skis and the searay is in stack storage.

Once we saw a guy trying to launch his boat with the tie down strap still on. When it wouldn't come off he yelled at his buddy to pull back up so they could release the stap.
Then they backed in again and this time it still would not come off the trailer. He yelled again to pull back up the ramp, it seems he also had transom straps on. So after he took the transom straps off they eased back into the water and finally got the boat off the trailer. Then all of a sudden the fellow launching the boat yelled to bring the trailer back down the ramp, the boat was sinking!!! It seems they had forgotten to put the drain plug in. Now when they finally got the boat back on the trailer and pulled up the ramp for the third time the boat was really heavy in the aft end due to all the water they took on and apparently the tilt trailer was not latched real good and the trailier tilted upwards very violently and the boat came down hard on the lower unit of the outboard. They tried to winch it up a little further on the trailer and the strap broke on the winch due to all the excess weight of the boat nearly full of water. When the boat finally drained the bilge and they put the plug in, the boat trailer settled back down to about a level normal state. Then the boat slid off the trailer and fell onto the concrete ramp about 15 feet shy of the waters edge. Funniest thing I have ever witnessed!!

I will have to go opening day of fish, not to fish, but take pictures of the ID 10 Ts. Some of the best time that I have had is with my chair watching people at the ramp. Thank god I do not have to launch a boat any more! I just walk down the dock and get in.

what gets me is a 4-6 lane ramp that only 1-2 trailers will fit on
not to say that I have never taken the middle...but it wasn't busy and there was a terrible 20+ crosswind
with my first trip out on my 240.

There is a boat launch in the Pensacola area on the ICW off Innerarity Point Rd which is a mile or so west of the Big Lagoon State Park ramps. Anyway, when the tide goes out the water runs past this ramp like whitewater rapids. Ok, I'm mildly exaggerating but the water does move really fast here and you have to navigate perpendicular to the water flow to get your boat up the ramp and onto your trailer. I remember the first time I tried this there was a pretty big crowd sitting at picnic tables watching the "show". There is a bar on the other side of the launch parking lot and apparently it is great sport to grab a beer and wander over to watch the idiots like me trying to hit a moving ramp target. Not only do you have to deal with the water but this launch with its two ramps is incredibly busy so that the show never stops. Fun times.

I have launched at that ramp once and only once. Not fun with a 24 center console.

What gets me with that ramp is the idiots who take up the ends of the courtesy dock....the only spot my 268 will fit!
