Read about alligators in the flood waters. Someone got attacked by one.

Brutal situation.

I'm wondering about all those fine New Orleans citizens who routinely pack guns and shoot people. With no cell service for people to call 911 I'd think the professional thieves would be having a field day.

Saw a drone video earlier today. You are correct.

I was a PA State constable back when Katrina hit and I know a few that went down there and were sworn in locally to protect whatever they could

I know it is a mess there right now. I have 3 car dealerships in NOLA and Slidell and employees everywhere. Biggest issue at the moment is looting. Broke into one of my stores and broke windows and tried to burn it down. I can only imagin the boats around the lake took a beating as my Slidell store has quite a bit of wind damage and they took a ton of water. I am flying to Mobile today and may drive over if needed but looks like there will be no power for weeks so I am just trying to keep my employees safe and get them supplies. My Gulfport store opens back up today pending I can get employees back that evacuated, still lots of flooding around the area. Total mess and I feel for those people...God Bless.

@Jaybeaux - have you heard anything from Bob Warren in Covington? He was my neighbor - I seem to remember we were about 11' above sea level there...
No I haven't. The North Shore got pretty banged up. A buddy keeps his boat in Mandeville. Said water was 7.5 feet....about like Katrina. I'll reach out to Uncle Bob.

@carterchapman Just got off of the phone with Dan Warren. Called him rather than add a load to the communication network in SoLa. Said Bob & Bev are fine. House is good. No water. No power. Living on Nat Gas Generator. Said the boat is ok. Mark is on it.

Dan said to ask about your A7 days!

Thanks for reaching out.

Why would anybody break the windows and try to burn it down? F'ing animals.
I know some good people live down there but I don't know how you do it. Sorry for the difficulty to the good people there and I hope the best for you. Is there anyway for us to help the csr people?

Great news! Dan sure was a great kid as a youngster. I know he’s a great man

@NorCal Boater is in Covington if I recall correctly.
Yep....still here in Covington. Since I sold the boat I haven't looked here on the forum much. Too painful.

Personally, our home suffered no damage which was remarkable considering I have 9 large oak trees on our 1 acre. No power for a week and no internet for two. I do have a whole house natural gas generator that is 25 KW and water cooled. I pay a guy $500/year to maintain it and provide emergency service. Power went out Sunday about 5 PM. The generator died Wednesday about the same time. It was giving me a Low Coolant/High Temp fault. I noticed a small coolant leak and repaired it, topped off the coolant but it would run 5 seconds and quit showing the same fault. Called the generator guy who came out 24 hours later, piddled with it for 30 minutes and declared, "I don't know what's wrong with it, I can't fix it." and then he left. About 2 hours later he texted me with an address of his generator boneyard and said there was one there like mine and if I wanted to go pull the senders/sensors from it and put in mine I was welcome to do so. I did and it started and ran. Why I had to do that, and not him, is beyond me. However, he is now my ex-generator guy.

I sat up through the hurricane (7 pm-2 am) and we had 60-80 mph sustained winds and recorded gusts over 100. I watched neighbors trees blow over and power lines fall. This was not really a big rain event so flooding here on the northshore of the lake was minimal. We had family ask us why we didn't evacuate. That's a good question. It's not that easy. We had a place to go. A friend has a home on Toledo Bend Reservoir about 4 hours away and offered it to us. But that 4 hour drive would have been more like 6-7. Then you aren't sure when you are able to return and also you are not sure what you are coming back to.

Prior to moving here 5 years ago I lived in California for about 40 years. During that time I went through several earthquakes and I'll tell you this....I'll take an earthquake over a hurricane. An earthquake is over in 30-60 seconds and you don't have to go look for your car in the next county. Yes....you get advance notice of the coming storm but that anxiety just adds to the negative experience. We are still not back to normal here. Countless trees and power lines down and still thousands without power.

The guy who bought my last boat (1985 23' Cobalt) moved it permanently to Michigan last summer so that was not on my mind. Final thought....I don't think I'll ride out another. Now in my 70s its just too nerve-wracking but time will tell. Hopefully I won't need to decide that too soon.

Shawn,

I sat through a Tropical Storm with 55 MPH winds when I lived in Covington back in the 70's. Watching the big pines bend over and listening to the branches hitting the roof was enough for me - I vowed never again. Luckily, I moved to Atlanta the next year!!

Over the past 5 years several tropical storms and a few hurricanes came our way but always missed us. This one didn’t. I guess our luck just ran out. It could have been worse and and has been for many others.
