When I had it temporarily hooked up (i.e wires twisted together) data would alternate between the position showing on chartplotter and ??????, which I figured was due to being under the metal roof. So I went ahead and spliced with the "Scotchlok" buttons which may have been a mistake and am guessing I did not get them crimped correctly. Picked up a terminal strip and will try this, maybe this weekend. I still am at a loss why the DSC nema0183 wires were never connected on the original (factory?) install on the NS100.

It may have only been a one wAy communication. NEMA0183 devices have talkers that broadcast and any listener can hear the talker. If to many talkers broadcast, they randomly time out and try again. The old chart plotter was probably the talker and had several listeners wired in. I think the radio only needs listening capability to receive position. This will be incorporated into any transmissions, but does not need to pass information back to the MFD.
