My shiny new Icom 504 seems to have developed an issue with the squelch. When first installed a couple of months ago, it worked fine. Yesterday while trying to coordinate a raft-up, I discovered it will no longer receive unless the squelch is turned all the way down. Obviously, this is unacceptable. Fortunately I have a backup handheld VHF.
Some additional discoveries during initial troubleshooting - the weather channels come in fine. Turning the squelch all the way down on channel 16 does not result in a blast a static, instead, it is more of a low "crackling" sound. LOC on/off does not change anything - in fact went through all the front panel controls, not change. Turning the other electronics off (GPS/Chartplotter) make no difference.
I'm pretty unhappy about this, the radio is only a couple of months old and was not easy to install in my helm. The radio worked great until yesterday. I will double check the antenna connection today however given how strongly the WX stations come in I doubt that is the issue. I strongly suspect it is something internal to the radio.
Anyone have any other thoughts?
