Cockpit icemaker does not work very well it will make one tray of ice when I turn it on after about 2 hours. And then it leaks in and out of the ice bin and then freezes. What a pain! Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct this problem. Most people I have talked to say get rid of it. Beachnut:smt100

It sounds to me like your fill valve might not have got winterize properly. (been there done that, twice) First time $150 for an appliance guy, second time ordered the part ($22) and did it myself in less than 1/2 hour. Is it a U-line?

There is a sticky on the care and feeding of icemakers on another forum that is very comprehensive. Can we say boater ed?

As for removing the icemaker, I think that's a personal preference. We use ours all the time. I hate hauling ice to the boat.

I really like having an icemaker but it hasn't really worked well since I purchased the boat 2yrs ago. I finally repaired it last winter.

Regarding your situation, it really shouldn't take 2hrs for your first cubes, more like 20-30 minutes. What was the ambient tempature around the icemaker upon start up?

In my case, the condenser fan had seized which would cause the compressor to overheat but only during the day when it was hot. During the night, I'd hear the clunk of ice being made (while the cockpit was cool) only to see a bunch of slush in the bucket by noon. Drove me nuts!:smt101

My ice tray was also leaking into the ice bucket (making one large cube) or down the wall and freezing the ice bucket to the freezer bottom. I ended up replacing the entire cube tray and mechanism, not because of the leak but because the non-stick coating had begun to peel off the cube tray. The new tray eliminated the water leaking, but that might have also been done by repositioning the water supply hose further into the ice tray while insuring that it had a downward angle.

You will find it easier to get down to the issue if you remove it from the boat, take it home, and connect power/water. Take the steel cover off the back and watch exactly what is happening. Put a thermometer in the ice bucket and start seeing what is happening to the temp. By observing what it's doing, it will help uncover the problems affecting this icemaker.

They aren't all that complicated.

I am way too familiar with my U-Line ice maker. I have had it in and out of the cabinet 3 times now.... I replaced the water inlet solenoid and then replaced the ice maker tray (x2) only to discover I burned out my my solenoid before I replaced the ice make tray 2x.....(wtf). Anyway, I have a very fond affection for my ice on board.... And it is working perfectly now !!!!

My ice maker decided that the 4th of July week would be a good time to quit. Found the ice tray just full of cool water. No ice in sight.

I pulled the unit and found that the condensor fan was not turning. Gave it a couple kicks, and it tried, but was catching. Reached for the only spray lube I had handy (Woody Wax), and it's off and running again.

But I think I'll order a fan motor... Anyone recommend a good source for U-Line parts>

I tried the same fix for my fan. Didn't work very long before seizing again. Go for the new part!

Hey... even now, my ice maker is making ice! Cool!!

tThanks everyone for your imputs, I am going to start with the "kick" and if that doesn't work I will move on to the other ideas. Beachnut

Ok, this may have already out there and I may have even been involved..... ( it sucks to get old ). I pulled the front lower grill cover off and the cooling fins were covered with 1/2 inch of dog hair and lint.... No wonder it wasn't producing ice.
