Hello People,
can somebody tell me what is in the cockpit off a 340 sundancer 2000.
is this an icemaker or refrigerator and what exactly is the difference????
the icemaker cockpit only runs on 110 or can i also use it when i not use the shore power/generator.
Help me out please just a new proud owner off a super vessel.

An icemaker actually makes ice cubes, while a fridge keeps things cold. I'm not sure on your particular boat about the 110. Mine I can use while underway.

We use our icemaker when on the hook. Depending on how long we are out, we run the genny to keep making ice for our ice box. One night out, we don't power it up and the ice will last about 24 hours, and we start over. We can make 20 pounds of ice per day.

Icemakers run only on 110v - thus you can use it on shore power OR while the generator is running. The think in your cockpit is likely JUST an icemaker. Your refridgerator (inside the cabin) is AC/DC. It may have a small freezer section at the top but it does not make ice.

Good luck with your super vessel!!!

Thanks for the info, I do think i have two Refrigerators on the boat because the one in the cockpit is also running on 12 volt and in top off the fridge is a space for ice cubes.

Ice makers may be a waste,, takes up alot of refrig room and most people
dont put the ice into drinks anywhy,,,(holding tank water sometimes is not the best tasting)

Hell, I wouldn't trade my icemaker for a fridge! I wouldn't make ice from holding tank water but I make 'em from dockside water all summer long. Even if you don't put them in drinks, it's handy to have ice for the cooler.

What do they charge for a bag of ice today? Two and a half bucks? That's $75 if you are gone 30 days. Adds up. Holding tank water is fine if you know what you are doing.

My water in my holding tank is better (after treating) than the dockside water. The ice maker is a great option. I start making ice on Friday night and use the last batch to pack the cooler on Sunday night for the way home!

My boat came standard with a cockpit icemaker with a fridge as an option. I had ordered the fridge because, well it was an option and I thought I was supposed to order all the options:lol:, but then it occurred to me: what the hell do I need another fridge for? What I need is ice! I cancelled the option and stuck with the icemaker.

True, we rarely use the icemaker ice for drinks, but it sure comes in handy for the cooler.

Oh, and we NEVER make ice from our holding tank:smt009. Only from our freshwater tank...

most of the boats now are "icemaker-standard or optional cockpit fridge" Our last boat and the one we just bought have the fridge and that is what I prefer. Some folks rather the icemaker. It's personal preferance. I'm a beer drinker and the fridge suits me fine. My buddies all have the icemaker and if I need some ice to whip up some blender drinks, I know where to find it:grin:

Our boat comes standard with a fridge down below, a big ice box under the L seat and a cockpit fridge. We thought that was kind of silly and ordered an ice maker so we could make ice for the ice box and have easy access to ice for drinks.

I have had it both ways. I perfer the refrig in the cockpit as it keeps my beer cold and close by. My wife likes it as it saves her from havie to go down stairs to fetch my drinks.

I have one of these on my tug. I Paid $167. :smt038. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Compact-Por...|240:1318|301:0|293:1|294:50#ebayphotohosting
