I've see the IAC topic come up numerous times. I tried to search it with both the basic and advance, and cannot get a single pull.....even with a fresh post on it in the last day or so.

Anyway, I've had a couple of recent episodes of near total power loss while at speed - but I don't stall out, the boat recovers, and I'm on my way.

IAC? Maybe not even relevant to a carb model like mine?

Could someone define it, and provide your comments?

I'm at about 96 hours as the second owner.

Thanks!

Do a Google search like this: iac site:Clubsearay.com or put in your search term in a Google search, select search, select advanced search at the bottom and type Clubsearay.com in the site field and search from there. You will find several iac titled threads.

IAC valve or Idle Air Control is used to provide air to a fuel injected engine when the intake for the intake manifold is closed. This means when throttle is all the way down (closed) or idle speed. The symptom of a bad IAC valve is the engine will stall and will not start at idle speed, when this happens if you advance the throttle control just a bit the engine will start and continue to run.

There have been a lot of threads on IAC valves as for some reason there has been a lot of failures of this part. One of the reasons given for this is the failure of most to change the supply air filter which is a located in the intake manifold. This “muffler” is small and cheap, and easy to change. I change mine every season at the time I change my oil.

I was wondering the same thing. To me, it sounds like carb engines to not have this. I'm not %100 certain though.

Thanks for the search tips Mike.

It appears that the IAC is not part of the carb engine.

Correct, no IAC on carb'd engines. Loss of power while under way could be lack of fuel (plugged filter, bad pump, crap in your tank, etc) or an intermittant ignition problem (loose wire somewhere, heat breaking down a component, etc). You need to see if you can figure out which it is and go from there.
