I'm looking to buy a spare IAC valve for my 8.1s. Has anyone used the non Mercury overpriced ones? Results? Thanks

I have an OEM I will sell for $35. Quicksilver Part No. 862998. Not sure if it fits the 8.1.

Why in the world would you want to try a non mercury part to just save a few bucks??

If I thought it was any of your concern I would tell you but it's not so.....

Because these are not made by Mercury anyway. They are made for them and relabeled. There is nothing marine specific about them. They just must fit the needs of your engine and computer. Its also not just a couple of dollars in some cases it is $120 vs $40.

I'll take it. How do we proceed? I'm not sure on how to PM you on this site. Thanks

Click on his name and when the box pops up hit start conversation... that will launch a PM/DM/Conversation... whatever you want to call it.

Fair enough Kevin, thanks for the heads up

Wait 'til you start shopping for plug wires. Mercruiser 84-881698 OEM wires, $506.10 from mercruiserparts.com!!!!!

I buy the Volvo Penta wires for "their" 8.1 motors for about $60 from Cecil marine. No one can yell at me for using "non-marine" plug wires. (Is there really a difference between marine and auto plug wires?)

There are certain things I do not scrimp on; Manifolds, Risers and those type things, but I buy my oil and trans coolers from Mr Cool Marine

I once bought a in tank fuel pump from autozone, I got the cheap one instead of the more expensive bosch, boy did I regret that...…...

Replacement: Standard Motor Products AC 423

Just make sure whatever you get comes with the replacement gasket. Also the IAC mufflers will need to be sourced separate (most likely locally) but they are cheap.

I usually base this on the effort involved to replace. For simple replacements I do not mind. For something like dropping a fuel tank... I would probably go with a higher grade. Just did this with my Son's Jeep - bearing were shot and we went with Timkens rather than the cheap ones.
