I replaced both IAC's this weekend, having ordered the valve, gasket, and "muffler" as directed by many on this forum. Upon removal of my old IAC's, there were no gaskets to remove, just a riveted screen in place. See picture. I went ahead and used the gaskets, but can anyone verify if this is correct? Boat won't be in the water until the 15th, so I can't start her up to check.

MIne did not have gaskets on the original either. I just threw the gaskets out and replaced exactly what I took off. All I can say is it works without the gaskets just fine. Maybe it depends on the year of the engine? My engine was a 2007 6.2 Horizon... The way I think about it, if the face is flat and the IAC is flat, there would be no reason to require a gasket. If either were really scratched or warped then I would recommend using the gasket.

Not really sure what I am seeing in your picture but here is a thread I started awhile back which has a number of pictures I took. http://clubsearay.com/showthread.ph...re-is-why-and-how-to-change-it?highlight=idle Since we both have 350MAG engines of a similar vintage (mine is a 2006), I can't imagine they would be any different. I don't believe the parts diagram shows a screen either for the bottom of the IAC. Are you sure it is rivited in place? Do you have a better picture? I am wondering if you are referring to the mounting block rather then the IAC valve?

We just went through the exact replacement on a friends boat. We had the screen as well. We did use the gasket but after replacing the IAC and the foam filter, we had marginal improvement. So we called a mechanic and he knocked off the little rivet heads and took the screen out. You couldn't see through it as it was clogged with crud. He cleaned it real good with brake cleaner and the visual change was unbelievable. He just set the screen back in the same spot using the rivet studs to position it. Re-installed the IAC with gasket and the engines now run wonderfully.

Here is the recent thread where we chatted about it: http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/73543-Can-dirty-IAC-filter-immediately-hurt-IAC
