I wish my Sea Ray was a Harley

that Duece is sweet !!
I would spend more time shining than riding

That does happen! But boy is it worth it when you see the heads turn when the sun hits it!!! :) Btw, the Deuce is bored over with the Screamin' Eagle kit and dyno'd at 103hp. The back tire will break loose on dry pavement in the first 3 gears.

If you are ever in Michigan I have a buddy that can hook you up with a used one. He deals mostly in baggers if that is your thing.

Very sharp bike! They really do ride like a dream and are very comfortable if longer cruising is what you're looking for. They also have a great built in sound system in the fairing and you can hear it very well at highway speeds.

Next spring (right before boating season starts) we want to do the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Tail of Dragon -we have friends that rent a cabin and do it every year

I have a Honda Shadow Sabre and I love it. This will probably chap a few people, but the only thing a Harley is really good at is being a Harley, and when you know how they're built, you'll buy something else. Don't get me wrong, I think they're pretty bikes, they certainly look good, but the quality doesn't match the price. It isn't that they aren't a quality bike, but they aren't 20k better than my Honda.

Certainly not gonna chap me, but one thing that has to be remembered is the resale value and how a Harley retains its value. It can borderline be considered an investment, as you can buy it off the dealership floor, ride it for 10 years and sell it for damn near close to what you paid for it. (Minus accessories of course!! ;) You're not going to get the same results with a Shadow. Not saying they're any less of a bike or that they're no good. It's just the facts of how they hold their value in the market.

I'll give you that Harley's keep their value. I only paid 3500 for my Honda with 9,000 miles. I don't see it dropping much more than that! I do agree with keeping a Harley and getting what you paid for it though.

I agree that Honda or Yamaha are better built bikes -in fact if I was going to use it as a means of transportation on a regular bases I would own nothing else -But I believe everyone some time or another has wanted to own a Harley -So if you can justify owning a boat you can justify owning a Harley
Hey..... you only get to go around the block once!

Anyone a fan of the Suzuki Boulevards?

Thinking of trading up from the gixxer for something with some storage. Just no room for a packed lunch when heading to the marina ;)

I have owned several motorcycles through the years but never a Harley. So it was demo day here in Raleigh and decided to go test drive one and if I liked it I would see if I could get a good deal and maybe buy one.
Well …there’s no deal - you pay list price or they will not sell you the bike and same goes for the used bikes which are only a few thousand less than new –they may come off a couple hundred but that’s it. I was in shock coming from the boating world where everything is negotiable. They let me walk right out the door :wow: and they claim there the #1 dealer in the Carolina’s. Does Harley have that much command on the market? In this economy?

I do not understand why all the fans of Honda, Suzuki, Star, Yamaha and all other assorted and sundrie motorcycle brands that ARE NOT Harley's always chime in with their comments that their bikes are better, cheaper, prettier WHATEVER than a Harley.
The OP merely commented on the issue of Harley pricing and not which brand is better.
I have no problem declaring that I have not owned a motorcycle that was not a Harley Davidson and I have been riding since the early 1970's and I am not about to change.
I agree with some other posters who suggested that the OP look to the used market, or internet dealers and he may find some deals.
Life is better on a Harley.

I never stated that my bike was better, prettier etc than any other bike I simply was offering an alternative to Harley if the price point was too high. My point was get what you can and ride it. Why Harley owners always feel they have to defend harley I'll never understand. $27,000 for a screaming eagle deuce is part of the reason why people buy Other brands !

Lord, I apologize for the can of worms I'm about to open.....$400,000.00 for a SR 360DB is part of the reason why people buy Meridian or Bay Liner! That being said, if you want the best, you will pay to have the best, whether it be a boat, motorcycle or anything else for that matter. Nothing personal, Joe. Just my opinion....

If we've never done it before, why start now!?!? And, hey, the thread was about Harley's and we're still talking about Harley's so we're not TOOOO far off topic.

Life is too short to let little things get to ya. :smt001
