I want a manual

But what do I really want. I'd like a manual that explains components and has diagrams. I don't need to know how to use my boat...I need information on what each component in the engine compartment/drive is.

What manual am I after? 2003 SD, Alpha with fuel injection.

Sea Ray has excellent wiring diagrams in your owner's manual. If you don't still have the original, you can download it on their site. If you don't see your exact model year, look to other years where the model is still the same.

Component manuals, like a stereo, would have been provided with the original owner's packet - but you'll have to source those through the specific brand of stereo, etc.

For the engine/drive, you'll want to buy a service manual. However, it's not going to tell the function of the various pieces - the assumption is that if you're working on an engine, you have at least a basic understanding of what a starter is/does, etc. Otherwise, google is your friend for things like that.

Yes, those things will definitely be in a Merc SM. Engine wiring diagrams, as well.
