I think the time has come to get out of boating....

A Bronco? I am a long term Jeep guy. Just bought another Wrangler. The new Bronco is creating lots of discussion on the Jeep websites.

How do you like it so far?
Without stealing Todd’s thread it’s on a train to Fla I’m in NY and have to fly back.

Agreed, the daily driver Toyota Highlander will be with me forever if I can help it. No need to replace it, tires brakes, fluid changes and she just keeps going.

And I didn't go new with the 335i because I knew I wanted to tune it myself and not be too worried about.

I didn't know how poor we were as a kid, but we were poor, and like your parents that influences my buying decisions.
No Quitter just “transitioning”
Like from a male to a female? Do you have to have surgery to "transition"?

My wife has MS and the heat this year has been brutal on her. Which has led to more dock time and us going out late afternoon and cooking on the water and coming back around dark. My wife does everything possible to postpone.
Everything we (I) do in the boat is to make it easier for her to keep boating. I installed a hydraulic gasket step and a better ladder so she can get out of the water. 2 summers ago she hurt her knee + the MS so she was having a really hard time navigating the steps down to the head. We sold the Back Cove 34 and bought a Back Cove 37 in significant part because the path down to the head is much better - shallower steps and more handholds.

The helm deck AC and a cockpit sureshade has been huge to help keep her cool. At this point if it’s too hot, no AC = no boating since she has to stay cool to function. And the fridges with cold drinks.

I’m coming to the same conclusion

I moved to Florida just as the real estate boom took off, only to get strung along cashing out on an investment and missing my opportunity to buy waterfront before the prices tripled. Seriously bummed but I just don’t use the boat enough to keep it anymore. I’ve put less hours on in the last 15 months than the July and August prior. It’s becoming a bother more than an enjoyment. I hate to say it but my dreams came here to die

Seriously considering liquidation of everything I own and hitting hard reset on life.

Never do business with family…

Oh man, sorry to hear that. My situation isn't as dire. I just have not used the boat as a result of other factors. My mother in-law passed away last month on the 13th & my mom passed away September of 2019. Both were in the hospital for a significant amount of the summer. I decided to reno my moms condo to sell it which I finished in July of last year. Those factors pretty much crushed any chance of boating. Now my kids are less than excited about going out & other factors always seem to take priority. It just seems to be time for us to move on. I wish you the best @Stray Current . It sounds like you are dealing with a bit more than I am.

Damn! And you had quite the search.

To the OP - I've realized life has many different phase's. Though through all of mine, I've had a boat. We are switching gears a bit and will likely be back in a bowrider come spring...but now it's about laying some groundwork for future generations to enjoy...

It's time to get this thread back on track!

My wife and I had been looking for some land to build our retirement home, buy the land now and build in a few years (we're not even 40 yet).

After viewing some properties and pricing site prep, the build, well and septic install - we switched our search from bare land to houses with land. When rates jumped up, we put everything on hold and decided to just save up and enjoy our 37' boat.

Like a fool, in early July I looked at realtor.com one day and found two properties that would fit the bill. We viewed them both and one checked all our boxes (including some we didn't know we had)!

Yesterday we closed on a home with 15ac, our own private (fully stocked) lake and a forest....and our 37' will go to the buyer on Monday. Hard to believe 41 days ago I had no intention of selling our boat (the plan was to keep it and slowly build)...to now owning a pinch me, this can't really be our place and our 37' is sold (for 25% more than I paid in 2019)...

Life sure is interesting...we are pretty well set on getting a bowrider in the spring, as my wife pointed out I've never not owned a boat the entire 15+ years we've been together (everyone always buys before you sell, right)? I do still have the 10' dinghy though and looking at something for our lake...so I guess I still am a boat owner...

Exciting times, congratulations!

Warning! Casual perusal of realtor/zillow.com can change your life.

Funny how life surprises you. My wife and I were at lunch in Texas one Thursday, at the start of a pandemic, and totaly happy with status quo, within 48 hours we were sitting in our new condo in Florida. Prized boat would be gone in 12 months. Never saw it coming and never a moment of regret.

Covid pushed our plans up a bit also. We planned on living on the boat in Fla for a few more years then find a house. During Covid the wife says let’s start looking so we did and within a little over a year we built a house and sold the 500 and switched to day boating ,, what the hell just happened.?.

I sold our beloved Tiara back in May. When it came down to the sale day I was really upset and so was wife. She told me to purposely tank the sea trial so it would fail. Thought about it and would have been easy to do with my mechanical knowledge and being as I did all the maintenance on it for 10 years. Figured that was a good way to get in trouble if someone found out so I did not.

I was really pretty upset when it sold. We kept the slip as they a hard to get and mine I the best in the marina. Hate paying the rent for an empty slip but I was not ready to give up.

So my bother moved to Montana in June and we decided to go out. So instead of the big boat trip in the summer( which is hard to do without a proper real boat, we still have 2 smaller ones) we rented a rv for 5 weeks and did a trip to Montana from Florida. Had a great time and didn't miss the Tiara too much at the time.

So we did like Montana so much we started looking to buy a place there where my brother is and have him live in it. Prices were just stupid. I will not overpay. I have been watching and the prices are starting to move downward so the idea is on hold for now.
Which brings me to now..........yes I'm looking casually at a big boat again. If it wasn't for the current state of things I would probably just go for it. I really miss the big boat. The little ones are ok but they cannot do what the Tiara did.

My brain says buy real estate but my heart wants another boat.

Been looking around and keep coming back to the Sea Ray 370 EC with diesels and the hardtop. I need to go look at one in person.

Western Montana is amazing in the summer. You know I saw more ski/wake boats out west(the real ones like ski Nautique) than I ever have seen in Florida. Guess you never have been out there based on your comment. Never said I wanted to live there in the winter.

That reservoir we kayaked on is 50miles long. Beautiful!
The other pic is a lake near my bother.
So yeah..........it's sucks and I would not recommend you go.

My dad was born in Montana, and lived there until he enlisted in the Navy after high school. He told stories of how hot it was in the summers when he was working in hayfields, and it was cold the in winters.

But he also told stories of fishing the amazing rivers. My grandfather was a fish whisperer, and could convince any fish to jump on his line.

He only went back to Montana a handful of times, mainly to introduce my mom to his family and to bury his father.

Absolutely love mine, if I can take pics of anything for you, please let me know. If you are ever on the opposite corner of the country hit me up, I'd be happy to show her off in person!
