Yesterday we were in my friend's 23 Sea Ray coming of Sandusky Bay going into Bay Point from the east. Coming towards us is a 20ish some kind of boat which appeared to have 2 bow lines in the water. I stood up, because I was going to say something to the Captain about his lines. I noticed that there was tention on the lines and then I saw it. The boat was still on the trailer. I swear it. We've all heard the stories about this but here it was. I asked my friend to turn around and follow this amazing site and we did. The boat was heading to a nearby boat ramp which there was a crowd of people waiting for this boat all taking pictures and hopefully video. Anyhow I hope someone there knows the story and posts some video.

I wonder what happened to the tow vehicle? Must have been quite a sight, and I believe you. I've seen all kinds of crazy things that should never happen. Maybe the guy was trying to win a bet or just wanted attention any way he could get it.

I'll bet it was those crazy B-liner guys just fun'in with everyone.

Mythbusters did a show about this last year using a 16' Boston Whaler and although the boat was a little slow, it worked fine. They just disconnected the trailer from the truck at the ramp and let it go. As I recall, on the same episode, they interviewed a local boat salesman who said they had also done this before with a small crusier to deliver a trailer to someone. I am told it has been done on my lake as well to deliver trailers to people for some reason.

It didn't happen without a pic. Sorry.

What's wrong with hooking the trailer up to a truck and driving it over?

The boat dealer they interviewed had some sort of reason but I don't remember all the details. Something like the buyer had a private boat ramp in his back yard with some kind of winch system to retrieve the boat with the trailer and the ramp was inaccessable from the road- maybe, it has been a while. I am sure it is on youtube somewhere. Not sure why anyone would do it on my lake though.

Here is the episode I was talking about. I didnt see the part I was thinking about with the boat dealer but don't have time to watch the whole thing right now. Maybe I was thinking about another show, it has been a while. Either way, here it is.

I never saw or heard of this but hey, trailer boating IS popular  The only trailer related thing I saw was at a local launching ramp where a young couple was pulling their small cuddy out. Not too sure who let the wench line or tie downs off but after the boat was driven onto the trailer and it was going up the ramp, it picked the right time to roll of the EZ Loader trailer landing on the outdrive and hull. We then watched 10 really huge guys and women just show up and picked the front up while the man drove the trailer back under it. In a few minutes off they went like nothing happened!
