HI Folks,

I often go out for 3 - 4 days at a time with my family, where we go there is no easy access to freash water, actually no access at all. Has anyone had any experience with small desalinaters and if so where did you put it. I have a 1999 340DA and as I am sure you are all aware there just isn't a lot of extra room.

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Jon

Have you considered fresh water wash downs for showers? You can save a lot of water that way. A gallon of water per person in milk jugs for brushing teeth and drinking can go a long way especially if you start with a full fresh water tank prior to leaving. We can easily go 10 days on our boat with two people aboard and still have water left over.

No first hand experience, but I considered it and after researching, found I would not use it enough (a couple of times/year) for it to make sense.

The small PowerSurvivor 40 makes 40 gals day, should be enough for your usage.
Watermakers need to be used regularly, and maintenance is a biatch if you don't.

They also don't like nearshore "harbor" water, as it's full of contaminants and oil that quickly trash the filter membranes.

Size isn't a problem- they measure only about 17" x16" in area and weigh around 25 lbs. Power draw is 4 amps for that model.

Thanks to both of you, I have and do use fresh water wash downs, unfortunately with 4 children, it still leaves us a bit short after a couple of days......having said that there are usually only 4 of us out seldom get allsix of us there at once.

Thanks TOBNPR, will look at there website.

Regards

We have a Villagemarine unit 25GPH works very well had it for 5 years no problems. Size is about 2' by 1' by 1.5' takes up as much room as a cooler. They make a 7GPH 12 volt tha comes in pieces so you can stick it in areas one piece at a time. We go out for a week or so without stopping for water. Shower every day and flush toilets.
