I am a boat owner but not a cruiser like a 280 sea ray that I am looking at. I live on a river that connects to the Mississippi river and if I could find the right boat my wife and I could have unlimited travel options. The only problem is fuel is hard to get on the river and I need about a 200 mile range. What is the range of the 280 with a single 496 mag mpi setup. If that is not the ticket which model and setup would come closer to meeting my needs?

Sorry, you may need to go with another model or brand.

The Sea Ray Sundancer series are express short range cruisers.

The 280 Sundancer holds only 100 gallons of fuel. Even with a scant 10% reserve you only have 90 gallons to use.

I get 1.37 MPG but I have the twin 5.0’s.

Even with a light load and single engine your range will still be well under 200 miles.

You may want to consider a Amberjack with a diesel or a different brand.

A 2009 290 Amberjack's Fuel Capacity is 250 gal / 946.3 L.

With the 290 Amberjack your fuel range should be at least 250 miles and well over 300 if you go with the diesels.

Range on a river can be better than open ocean, especially if you have to idle for long distances. My 340 gets 1.8 mpg at no-wake speeds and holds 225 gallons (400 miles). On the other hand, at cruise speeds, my range is around 180 miles.

Maybe a slightly older boat with diesels is the way for you to go. The 370 comes to mind.

Thanks for the replies. I was afraid of the answer.
Take your budget for the 280 and look into a little older boat. It may take a little longer, but you should be able to find a nice boat that will fit your budget and you needs.

A 290 Amberjack would be a good bet.
