This is actually my Son's problem that I've been trying to help him with. He owns a 1985, 340 DA with twin 454 Crusauders.
A few weeks ago the starboard engine was running rough so he had the marina mech. do a quick tune up. Plugs, cap and wires. Both distributors had already been converted to an electronic ignition.
When everything was changed out, the starboard motor wouldn't even start. After much discussion, trying this, trying that, I suggested to Mike, the Mech. that he re-install the original cap, which he did. The motor fired up and ran, not great, but it did fire. Since then 4 to 5 different distributor caps have been tried and the engine will not fire. It will only fire using the original distributor cap.
Mike seemed to think that the problem may be with the electronics, so he switched distributors, starboard to port, etc. It still didn't help the starboard engine and now the port engine is experiencing the same issue. Obviously, I think that has something to do with the switch.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what the problem may be. Our mech. is baffalled, as I am. Thanks for any input. Rich
