My Dometic/Waeco RPF-50 Freezer is on the fritz. I've tried having it repaired by local appliance stores and by a local boat mechanic. No go. Then I decided to just replace it. Again, no go. It's discontinued and I can't find a left over unit anywhere.

Al at BOE has done all he can to try and source a replacement. All options are going to require cutting cabinets and still will end up with the unit not matching the separate refrigerator right next to it. I hate the idea of it not being 'factory' correct.

There has to be TONS of these units out there. How the hell are people getting them repaired or replaced?

Check this company out. They are a Marine Liquidator and have alot of parts off of broken, sunk boats and unused NEW parts that are not used from manufacturers. Not saying they have one but it might be worth a call to see if they have one. AND, my boat is moored only 2 miles from there and we are there almost every weekend. IF they have one, and you would like me to, I will take a run over there, take photos, make sure it works etc before you have it shipped to TX. Worth a shot as they MAY have the exact unit on the shelf. It is a great boat project place and can't tell you how many times that place has helped find stuff and real inexpensive too, well most stuff anyway. Located in Ft. Pierce FL

There's been a couple misdiagnoses and simple parts replaced but now they seem to think it's either the controller board or compressor (what else is left?!) and no one has been able to source the board.

I saw this unit once and I 'think' it'll fit size wise and hopefully be able to use my existing flush mount kit. I guess could also see if I could source a stainless front for the existing fridge since that what Sea Ray changed to in '06.

The Beard folks have worked their butts off to find parts and/or a replacement unit but all they can source are different manufacturers and different size units that'll require cabinet work and won't match the fridge.

I'll give the boat & RV folks a call this morning and see if they know if the unit is interchangeable.

Thanks!

Thanks Tom! I'll give them a call this morning.

Ok, what the hell, I just placed an order with the Boat & RV accessories folks. I've waited 8 months for a fix on this POS so I guess I can wait another few weeks to see what happens.

Just got the call. Boat & RV were informed they can no longer order the RPF units. Said they sold their last 2 last week. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Square one...........................................

I gave up on the Dometic junk used by Bayliner in our 4788. I replaced it with a 9 cu ft Danby Designer unit from Home Depot for about $500. Admittedly some cabinet mods were required but the (strictly 110 volt) fridge was far superior in performance, both cooling ability and battery consumption. Even better, my friends were jealous of the inside light.

I picked it back up from the appliance store and am now looking for an alternate manufacturer that will fit in the opening and not look like crap. Someone mentioned Novakool. I replaced my old Norcold on my 400EC with a Novakool. It lasted very well but wasn't the most sophisticated build quality I've ever seen.

No you are not!! I replaced it with a Nova Cool F2600 freezer ($900) on my 420. Had to replace the door insert with SS door panel ($60) but looks good.

Near where I used to have my warehouse, there was a company that custom makes camping fridges. They had the danfoss compressors and cooling elements etc and would fit them into anything.

The way chest freezers etc are made on fishing boats.

I know of them because a good friend had his Waco camping fridge freezer repaired there, better than factory.

I only post this because I would presume you must have similar operations in the U.S., maybe widen your google search to custom made camping fridges etc. they may be able to convert your freezer to better operating parts.

From looking at the company here in oz, they were more than comparable to Waco in prices, and gettin what you wanted
