Engines
Twin 454 strait shaft
Any one ever put one of these engine in their boat. At Merc store getting parts and dealer had some sitting in show room. He said they have replace ten 454s with them and the power is the same or a little more, fuel burn at 3,800 RPM is 10GPH. They did not change change transmissions, drive shaft or props.
Model was the 250HP rated engines. Price was $21,467 per engine and 10KW Westerbrok generator was 11,542. Instalation for all was $8,000. So total for al $65,000 or so. Value of my boat is that so would never get my money back but would have new engines. My 454 have 2,300 hours on them and do not use oil.
Help and comments please.

The Hyundai marine diesels are distributed by Performance diesel, Inc., the same company that handles MAN engines that are installed in the larger Sea Ray boats. These folks know what they are doing and test products extensively before they take on a line. That said, I don't see how repowering with these diesels are any different than Cummins, Cats, Volvos, etc. If you select an engine that will equal your old gas engine's hp and torque, (and I have serious reservations about replacing a 300+hp 7.4L engine with a diesel having less than half the displacement) you are going to invest $60-$80K in your boat, so you really need to love it.

Starting to look for replacement engines as we puton 300 hours a year. Based on comments the 454 is good for 3000 to 3500 hours so will need engines in 2 to 4 years. Be nice to know what to put in when they fail. May be gas engines will be better then.
