On our SR 2001 340DA I have a leak in my hydraulic helm. We removed it and inspected. Thought it may be from the connections. It is the heavy pump with 4 hose connections. We cleaned the connections, wrapped them with Teflon tape and reinstalled. It is still leaking. What can the problem be? Thanks Vince

With your engines running, and turning the steering wheel from port to starboard, do you see any small oil droplets form from the any fittings or the hydraulic hose connections?

Also, the fittings you teflon taped, did they have a sealing o-ring on the port connection or did they seal on a tapered thread?

The only other possibility could be the shaft seal....

teflon tape should not to be used on hydraulic connections
you should use hydraulic tread sealer or teflon paste if tread sealer is not available
