I am changing out my motors on my 95 330 DA. while i was doing so, was going to swap sides with my Trannys so the one that was running in reverse will now be running in forward and vice versa. While still keeping the correct prop rotation. I asked a Hurth dealer about it and he said if they work fine the way they are leave it alone but in the same breath said the theory of swapping them is you will get alot more life out of them since you are using different clutch plates. Anybody do this or have any expeience with it?

yes, it would be not such a bad idea, even though a clutch plate is either good or bad and no in between,
so the answer is why not you will be using the reverse pack vica versa on the transmissions now as forward....put some bottem seals in, notorious for leaking

Why wouldn't you just leave them where they are and change the clutch plates with new ones while your in there.
Clutch plates can wear so instead of trying to squeeze a couple of buck out of such a nice boat just replace the plates and you'll have no worries (assuming they need replace). The theory is because the wear pattern will be different then the last and will last longer so it can catch up with the previous wear sounds like a reason to replace to me..

Not sure if they need changing or not. Only have about 775 hrs. on them. Was just going to replace some seals. Figured if I replace everything that might need replacing I would be broke. Guess thats what a boat is all about!

seal kit, 200.00 clutch plate kit 700.00, labor 500.00, average
unlike a clutch in a car, plates really dont wear in an oil bath, they are good or they are bad, if bad the trans will drag, because of some other failure, i.e, worn pump, low oil and to the likes. if they had 10,000 hours on them i would surely open them up. by flipping them its like starting out at new again because you are going thru the reverse pack which rarely sees abuse....dont waiste your money...no wear patterns to be concerned with. they are bronze plates and one would think they wear like a clutch in the car, but they dont. would I re-seal if they were out, surely i would and thats it
