Hello all. Hope everyone in the path of Elsa is ready and prepped. They say by the end of the week when the storm gets to the north east it will be a tropical storm with 30-40MPH winds. I will add extra lines to my mooring chain, but bigger question is whether to leave the complete camper canvas up or take it down. I plan on spending the night on the boat and riding it out for the adventure more than worried about anything. Curious what your thoughts are on canvas. Thanks

Our canvas guy said: "either all up or all down". he also said, it'll survive a cat 1 hurricane, but he won't warranty anything that's a named storm.

The canvas will survive, but the snaps usually will come off and then that creates a problem with the canvas flapping or getting too much wind under it and tearing it off boat. I would think 30mph max gust should not be a problem.

I have camper, and a full cockpit cover. Any bad storm, i take down the camper and use the cc.
Before i had boats with cockpit cover. We just put a blue tarp over the dash/gauges held down with multiple bricks and left the cockpit open. Rain wont hurt it and didnt want shredded canvas.

Here in North GA on a large inland lake, we rarely get hurricane force winds. However, about every 2-3 years we get tropical storm winds from a system that will produce 40mph straight line winds with gusts to 60mph. In September of 2017, I had just moved a 2007 44 DB here in a covered slip. It had new a new bridge enclosure and wind speeds as mentioned above did absolutely nothing to the enclosure. Same thing occurred this past October and rarely a mention of wind damage to canvas. A dock broke lose at one marina, but never mention of canvas damage.....30mph gusts associated with a passing front occurs fairly frequently with no damage.....I think if the canvas is well fitted and tight, no problem. If it is loose and a snap or two come off, different story....
