Hurley H2O Davits, Any Advice On Installation?

Biggest problem I've had in rough conditions is the ratchet straps get soaked, and loosen up a couple clicks. Even now with a hydraulic lift I use stainless cables as I the straps would still loosen in rough conditions. If I were going to use straps again, I would get the wider ones made of seat belt like material. My slip mate was having lots of problems until he switched to the wider straps, and now they don't loosen anymore.

Thanks for that post. Good info.

The 44DA platform is 24" high, so we don't have any issues with boarding seas flooding dinghy - if we did it would be all the way up into the cockpit and my least worry would be if the dinghy was still there!

My last attempt was:
1) one strap from bow eye to an eye I mounted as far out ad aft as I possibly could on starboard corner of platform
2) one strap from bow eye under dinghy to inboard aft eye (described below)
3) two straps from transom tie down eyes criss-crossing under outboard engine to eyes about 8" behind the transom on the platform. The aft one of those two is as far aft on platform as I can mount but that is not past the keel line of dinghy. the forward one on the platform is under the tube of dinghy.

The diagram attached (dont you love my paint skills!) Green lines are from bow, yellow line are stern, red line is platform edge.

This configuration has no movement fore-aft of dinghy or left to right of dinghy keel but it still allows the dinghy to rock slightly in its cradle. That was my issue late summer in big head seas - it rocked back and forth so hard I was afraid the mount would break. To rectify it I ran a line from the starboard aft corner of dinghy to the eye just below it (purple line). It stopped it enough to allow me to continue on.

As I played with it I ran the same purple strap but over the tube first, then did the same on the other side. That seemed to lock it in better. My next plan is to put another set of eyes further behind the transom of the dinghy. That will mean there is more angle AND redundancy in the eyes. Since I tried this thankfully, and extremely uncharacteristically, we had nearly flat calm conditions on every run so I have had zero real testing.

Straps - yes straps matter, my dinghy is under 300lbs and I don't find the Hurley straps loosen up, but Alex's and other that have had issues have 650+ lb dinghy's and they definitely had issues. They use the 2" wide straps an double up all of them. If my dingy were that heavy there is no way I would use anything less than the 2" wide straps.

My swim platform is 24" above the water. I am installing the H20 system with the 36" extensions. Do you foresee any issues? Debating about installing an electric winch to help with the load

I strongly advise you not get the H20 with a platform that high over the water. I had one on my boat (same height) and got an H30 a year later. Pulling the dinghy up with the H20 was dangerous, nearly flipped the dinghy twice while doing it. The H20 arms just barely touch the water from that height, they were designed to be much lower in teh water than can be achieved with the platform 2 feet above the water. My dinghy weighed about 230lbs with the fuel tank and everything else out of it.

The H30 works much better, my new dinghy is about 300lbs and I have the electric winch option but many times I don't even bother using it as I can pull it up without any winch. For a dinghy under 500lbs I would not spend the money on the electric winch, the hand winch would be fine.
