Hull damage end of season

Happens all the time. When I get tailgated I steer off course about 15 degrees and let the idiot pass. Regardless, if a 21 kt wave causes that much damage I would suspect the hull was already compromised.

I ask this same question to the shop that is going to fixing it. He just smiled and said it happens and there is a lot of factors that cause it.

I dont know man, over the years we have been in stuff where we crested waves and stuffed the bow completely under green water to the windshield. Repeatedly for a couple hours, and not a screw came loose. Its why i buy SeaRays. I have a real hard time believing “it happens”. I’m with Gjim.

I had an old buddy that always put towers of power on his boats. He always had the largest HP available. He only had 2 boat speeds - OFF and WOT. After the second time out with him I refused to go again. Plowing down the river with no regard to wakes was very uncomfortable. His boat didn't have much to hang on to.

Nevertheless.......
With all that abuse his boat developed spider cracks in the gelcote, but I never saw any structural damage. Mind you, this was a garage kept boat, he never left water standing in the hull, and the boat was only a few years old, so not likely to have compromised stringers.

I hit a wave so hard once with my Tiara that the dinette table came off the mount. I mean it was a very hard hit! Probably the worst ever I had experienced on a boat. Totally didn't see the wave as it was very rough anyway. I had absolutely no damage or leaks in anything later on as a result. I put the table back together and drove on. My Tiara is built like a tank! I call it the wave crusher.

Well the shop said they rolled her inside and have started on our boat that was last Wednesday. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks this whole thing will be behind use. Would like to have her sitting in heated storage and I can be getting her ready for next season. The 7k I invested in having a road trailer built sure has paid off . I couldn't image how more complicated and expensive it would have been without it.

I got autopsy back from my hull damage once the shop got her opened up . They shop didn't find any previous or structural internal problems that would have caused this damage. Repairs are done they are giving the hull a good wash and cleaning the rest of the boat. They did say it was the perfect storm that caused the hull failure. The brunt of the wave hit right at the end of the bow support.

I am having anxiety just reading this thread :) I am reminded we cannot control the behaviors of others, when we try we stress, we have anxiety. You did everything right, don't beat yourself up. You have insurance, let them take care of it.

I always did my best to keep a lot of distance between my boat and other boats. It never failed though that some idiot, or a jet ski or bass boat, would take that space away. Happens in your car as well, we cannot control it, just drive defensively and anticipate what you will do when they do something stupid.

Best advice/training I ever got on this was in a 2 weekend motorcycle safety/riding class I took. Assume they will do something stupid, plan for it, anticipate it, prepare for it.

My dad told me many years ago when I started riding on the street; "They can't see you. And, if they do, they're trying to run you down." That thinking has carried with me my entire adult life. The wife is regularly reminded of that whenever we're out on the road, and I'm already reacting to someone's idiot move, even before they make it.
"How did you know they were going to do that?"
"Expect them to do something stupid. You'll rarely be disappointed."

I have found a quick roll of the wheel 1 turn each way for 2-3 cycles usually gets the ass riders’ attention and they back off.

A couple of quick slams on and off my wake is a “wake up” call.

I went into guardian mode once and it was like I locked the brakes and deployed a chute. Bad things could definitely happen

Being as you know the Treasure Valley, specifically the 84 between Nampa and Meridian. I had a biker get on the west bound and came across two lanes from the ramp. Seen him on the right then under the hood and never came out on the left. At 60mph I reached up and grabbed the Johnson Bar and locked up the trailer. Let go of the brake and dropped 6 gears, when I seen him pull away from the front. I swear his fender had to be on that big bumper. I have never been so scared in my life, thinking I was going to put 20 wheels over a bike and a fool.

Yep, that corridor is something! Never-ending orange barrels. Sometimes, the Darwin Effect comes into play. I'm just sorry for the poor b*stard that's on the receiving end when one of these idiots does themselves in.

If ITD would have given the job to anybody but Knife River, it would have been done 6 years ago. LOL

I've lived in the Boise Valley my entire life, traveling North on Hwy 95 to visit family at least once a year. There has never, never been a time in my life that we haven't been stopped somewhere for road construction work. Does anyone else have this kind of problem in their part of the country? It's infuriating!
'Not meaning to derail @dvx216's thread here...

Its highly unlikely that any wake could cause a 30" hull crack. Shifted cabinets, yes, loose trim, yes, but not a stringer and bulk headed hull unless there was some sort of delamination or core integrity.

Im not saying to upset the apple cart with regards to a claim, but I sure would have the repair facility inspect the associated structural members, and correct all issues while they are in there.
