I made the trip up past Albany once (went one lock in) and to Peekskill twice. Unless I missed it, I'm supprised nobody mentioned yet the floating logs.

On all three trips I dodged them the entire trip once I was north of about the GW. Hit one one time......:wow:. You almost can't help it. If you have, carry spare props.

Dom,

I'm just guessing that this could be seasonal thing, like spring time and eventually logs clear up as the summer rolls around.

I'm thinking the same thing. I hear of this happening in the Spring. We'll being doing the trip sometime in Aug.

I've been up to Peekskill/Havestraw twice...May and June and Albany/Catskill once...August. It may have just been the times I went, but all three times there was logs/debris floating.

I have made the trip 7 times over the last 4 years and it generally adverages around 9 hrs (June 09 - 8.75 hrs). It fluctuates about 30 min depending on conditions (traffic, debris, fishermen, sightseeing, docking, etc). The trip is about 150 miles and my cruising speed is around 25 MPH.

Linda and I make the trip at least once a year.Logs and debis can always be found after a heavy rain storm.Go to Boating on the Hudsons web and down load the tide charts. If you time yourself with the tide you can save a ton of fuel.Someone mentioned getting fuel at Englewood which has been lease to a private firm.We were told last week by the operator NJSPC that the new operators have raised prices and fuel availiblity is hit and miss.A better stop is Alpine which is run by NJSPC ,it is located about 8 miles south of the Tappan Zee bridge Jersey side(you will see a large tower on the western shore and the City of Yonkers on the east). We left the 79th street marina at 10 last saturday and were back in Albany at 330pm.Also the coasties have been all over the river lately (boarding boats) so make sure everything is up to snuff ,including you waste seacock being closed with the handle taken off.PS Kingston is a great stop over ,stay at the city dock...Ship to Shore has great food!If you need any other info PM us......

Did anyone make the trip between Albany and NYC this summer? If so, how many hours did it take?
We spent about 16 hrs of run time doing it in May. We made a vacation out of bringing our "new" 360 home from Connecticut. We were not in a hurry and we were slowly trying to burn off 2 year old fuel. Like Tom, we stayed at the Kingston municipal docks on Roundout creek. He's right, the food is good at the restaurant and it's right next to the docks. In a boat like yours, if you were just wanting to get to the other end at a nice cruising speed, I didn't see anything that would keep you from doing it in 6 hours or so. If your not familiar with the water, there are a few narrow channels, slower may be better. Enjoy the trip

There are logs all year long. Mostly in the spring but they are there all year. If you're lucky, you won't encounter railroad ties or telephone poles. Timing the tide and you can gain 4 knots. Alpine is the fuel spot like stated. Bring a camera, take pics, and stay in the channel.

Thanks all for the info. We are not going to make the trip this year (still to new to boating) but I was curious since we live in CT and my sister lives in Albany. Thought it would be fun to take the trip up to her place via boat rather than car but that will be next year or the year after!

Thank you; that is very kind of you. I will let you know next year. When do you typically do your trip(s)?

Usually the 1st 2 weeks of August.Again a trip to Kingston is worth it if you can fit it in this year.....stay in touch.
