hey guys i have a bravo one outdrive... i have it drained and the back cover and top plate off, i was wondering how i can test the gears manually with it off the boat. i know in alphas you can move the linkage and the prop shaft will lock in coresponding direction simulating forward and reverse... is there anyway to do that with the bravo?

It is not recommended to shift the bravo drives without the engine running or at the very least (since the drive is off the boat) the input shaft spinning.

The shifting is accomplished when the shift cable moves the shift linkage assembly (jaws that grab the cable) item numbers 14 & 18 in the link below. Once 14 & 18 start to move, it will move item numbers 7-18, item #9 moves the top & bottom gears to accomplish forward, neutra, reverse gear. Also item #3 (Detent Assembly) is important to keep in good working order for smooth shifting as well.

Hope this helps give you an idea, Good luck.:smt001
