Anybody have the Snap-In berber carpet with the wave backing?

Just wanted your thoughts on comfort and how it is holding up in your boat. The new carpet and backing is a lot thinner and weighs a lot less than my old carpet which is the original for my 13 yr old boat and has a heavy clear yellow backing.

So how is your Snap-In carpet doing?

EDIT: Sorry, but I am asking specifically about the "SNAP-IN" brand replacement carpet -- to anyone who has ordered and installed this carpet in their boat.

My berber is only a year old (from Snap In Carpets) and I take it up and stow it down below after every use but it's holding up fine. Looks like new and the backing is fine.

My original snap in carpet was in horriable shape after only 4-5 years of use. Rubber backing was dried and falling apart everywhere. Carpets looked bad too. Just switched out with new Corinthian Aqua Mat carpets R6322 Desert Sand. MUCH better construction and backing. I don't know why Sea Ray continues to put those crappy mats in as OEM carpet. Not sure if you would have had the same thing on a '98

The previous owner threw it away because it was horrible he said. I am picking up the new carpet from The Upholstery Shop tomorrow. I went with a dark sand closed loop marine carpet.

Mine are originals and still look like new... but I take them home and hang them up during the winter months. I can't see ever having to replace them.

My boat had the original maroon when I bought it. In the 300 WE there are 2 pieces and only 1 was left. I really don't believe it was ever used based upon the shape it is in. Anyway, for 2009 & 2010 went without it but really began to miss it especially when the kids were swimming and coming back in the boat w/wet feet. Having sand berber cut and bound by a local boat canvas and upholstery shop. Very excited.
If it is kept clean and given a chance to dry out, it will last for years and not create any type of smell. I think the key is taking it out of the boat every so often so that the backing doesn't start peeling away and sticking to the deck. Seen it happen many times.

I have my original berber cockpit carpet. Very heavy duty. During the winter, I store in the garage folded up. During summer, I take out regularly and clean/hang dry. It seems to be holding up well. I also put down a mat with a waterproof backing at cockpit door to catch some of the water from the kids. That seems to help some to prevent the heavy traffic from getting worn.

I just got my new Corinthian carpet to replace the factory original. The original's backing was turning to dust and sticking to the cockpit floor.
I began installing snaps last night after ordering them online. So far I love the quality.

One thing I love about working with Corinthian is the fact that they encourage you to make the patterns as you see fit. In my case, I removed all the space between the snap in carpets and ran the new carpet all the way to the cockpit side walls. The end result is a much better fit, a much easier boat to keep clean and a more high end look.

My advice is to not just accept what somebody else did or what Sea Ray sold without at least looking to see how you can improve it.

Jason,

I noticed that Corinthian has a template in their library for a 2005 280DA. Did you order from their library or make your own template? How did the carpert fit?

Thanks.

I had them use the template they had in stock. It was pretty much perfect except it was about 3/4" short in the front left portion where the narrow part goes around the left of the cabin entry step sump. I had to move a snap post down just a bit. Everywhere else fit great. I did not think it was a big enough deal to ask them to re-do, after all, I realize the size could have varied that small amount. I did inform them about this. I don't know if they adjusted their template. I have posted a pic below that happens to show that spot and I have circled what I was talking about. Overall, I am very pleased with the quality of the carpet and the actual type of carpet I chose.

I had Corinthian send me carpet for my 32'sea ray from a existing pattern they had on file. It did not fit at all, I called them they said make a new pattern and send it to them less than 2 weeks I had my new carpet and looks and fits fantastic. I strongly recommend them.

I have carpet from Custom Marine Carpet, and they are holding up nicely. They also encourage you to make templates of what you want, which really does work nicely. Sounds like we have two good sources for carpet!

My Corinthian carpets are currently 10+ years old and I pressure wash them using a boat brush and boat soap at least three times each summer and shampoo them at least once in the spring and fall. They are holding up very well and the gray wavy backside is in great shape. I use the 25% nozzle so I don't do major damage.

I received my first Corinthian set with Aqualoc and they are awesome! I didn't like the spot Jason pointed out. I also didn't like the transom door opening or how far off the edge the border was all the way around. Also my snaps didn't come close around the hatch latch or the cut outs for the fold up seat. I made templates and they made new ones, sent to me no questions asked! I called for a "RA" on the original set and they said just keep them! I am going to order another set in the Thunder Grey! I found that with me and the Mrs. the darker color won't show as much...lol Corinthian is awesome!
