Hi All,

Yup, another newbie here. I have lurked around on this site long enough and decided it was time.

Bought my first boat last July. A 2005 Sea Ray 300 with 5.0s. Had the boat shipped from a lake in Idaho then had closed cooling installed prior to a dip in Puget Sound. Nice boat overall. I was told that I would be able to steer the stern drives at low speed but that was my first lesson learned. Maybe above 2-3 knots but any slower and no go. Then I discovered the magic of throttle steering. Takes a lot of practice but man is that a treat.......plus it gets the heart rate up!

Anyway, I look forward to chatting and learning any tips or tricks you wish to share. If anybody would like to share their experience with Hurley davits and inflatables on a 300, I am ALL ears. I guess eyes actually.

Welcome from Marysville, WA.
I'm sending you a PM also, but you have you checked out the upcoming rendezvous to Canada?

Bel Mar: You should have left the boat in Idaho and moved over from Gig Harbor! :) I've heard there is some good boating over there somewhere, but it's pretty good in Northern Idaho too!

Welcome to the board and congratulations on the Sea Ray. I think you'll find the 5.0's are a great engine and will do a nice job moving the 30 footer. It's interesting how boats change over the years. Our 30 footer is 11 feet wide, yours is 10.5. Our dry weight it listed at 9,600 lbs, yours is 12,500!

A bunch of us are invading the San Juans next Summer, so be prepared!

Brian,
Welcome from me as well. I grew up in the Seattle area and started my boating out of Des Moines. Spent a lot of weekends in Gig Harbor killing brain cells at the Tides Tavern. (Remember....only the weak ones die)

You will get a ton of great info here. Good to have another West Coast resident.

Why did you move away?
Your Brain cells are still here .....

Welcome to the board from South East Ga. See what kind of folks you have over there. Seriously there is a great group here. You may want to put your boat info in your signature, that way when you ask a boat related question anyone who tries to answer will see what you have, model, engines, drives.

Welcome neighbor! Yep, I'm about 6 miles north of you in Olalla (Port Orchard address, GH phone number)...

Anyway, Sundancer alluded to the big cruise this summer... gotta check it out... We are heading to Dock street Marina this weekend... doing the comedy club thing on Sat night... at the Panegeas theater... Anyway, good to know another local boater... PM me for more details about other stuff we have going on around the Puget Sound... my contact info is in my profile...

Todd,
I moved away in 1977 for a job transfer and found out the sun shines often in other parts of the country. My Mom and brothers still live there and I come up as often as I can. However, I doubt I will ever live there again. I have now lived away more than I lived there. I still consider Seattle home and believe that when the sun shines, there is no place prettier than the Puget Sound area.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! You guys are great.

Checked out the Tacoma Boat Show today. Not much of a show really but found some good info on inflatables. This will be my first full summer with the Sea Ray 300 so I am busy installing all the goodies. Now if the snow would just go away!

Welcome Bel Mar Pointe! We are in Gig Harbor as well. Hope you enjoy the board...it is a great tool for me so far. See you in the harbor!

Welcome Brian! I used to live in Graham, next door to Puyallup. That was about 14 years ago when I was stationed at Fort Lewis. Beautiful part of the world, expecially when the sun is out...I need to get back up to the great NorthWest and visit friends some day soon.
