Any tips on how to reseal the plastic to metal hose connections?

The output from my water heat sprung a massive leak recently

I had an issue with the input connection leaking IHG a few years ago. Over the many times of the PO disconnecting the in and out and coupling them together for a “bypass” to winterize they wore out the aqua lock fitting and it would leak. Replaced that and no issues since

I think this was the part I ordered, but not positive, can’t find the invoice

Here’s a photo of the culprit. Sorry it’s poor quality I was working in the dark without a proper light.

I think want to make an extension with a loop because that hose is pulled tight when installed. Is there any intentional reason that they would have done that?

The manual says the piping is zurn 1/2”. If I look on Zurn’s website all they have is pex. Can I cut the fitting off of the end of that and replace with a hardware store pex fitting and then put a loop in that pipe?

Double check the sizing on the pipe, itself. Sometimes, 15mm was used instead - even though the manual may say 1/2". Sizing is printed on the pipe.

But, yes, you can use standard PEX fittings (Sharkbite, for example). Freshwatersystems dot com is a good resource for these fittings, as well (as Chris also noted).

Yes, the PO also fixed that leak by cutting the hose short an inch or so.

On second thought, maybe a loop isn’t a good idea here. A loop might keep the system from draining properly if someone tried draining it for the winter.

Instead I think I will cut the pex shorter and replace it with a short piece of flexible pipe.

Correct. No need (or want) for a loop. But you could do what you are proposing... or just add short length of PEX with a splice connector.... either a barbed fitting with the proper clamps or push-to-connect.

The grey pipe is not pex its poly and the inside/outside dimensions are different that pex just by a little. It was used in boats, RV's and modular housing and was banned back in the 90's because chlorine would eat it up from the inside out. Most insurance companies will drop your home owners insurance if it discovered in you house, thats how I learned about it as I bought a house in NC and insurance company did their inspection and fpund it and gave me 30 days to get it replaced or lose my home owners insurance.

1/2" sharkbites work perfectly on it, whatever it is :)

Not leaking at the moment. I’ve had the water turned on for an hour and not a peep out of the water pump.

thanks for the help fixing this.
