While that was interesting to watch and the end result was pretty cool... I have to wonder what the point is of buying a $20 RC boat, spending countless hours "modifying" it with parts that cost $100s? I guess 'cuz you can? Personally I would just went with the proper hull to begin with, but I guess I'm just old.
Agreed, although the RC sickness is something I can vouch for. We were into it for a while, lots of allowance/grass cutting money was sunk into that hobby. I still have an 1/8 scale U1 Unlimited hydro I built that runs on nitro that has never seen water. Now that I have a dinghy to retrieve it when she goes airborne, maybe this year I'll give it a go. It should do 45-50mph easy.

That thing looks pretty sick!! And believe me I'm no stranger to expensive hobbies (sicknesses???). In my spare time I do Ironman triathlon and some would wonder why the he!! I spend the kind of money I do on bikes, and wheels, and gear. My current rig when setup for racing (i.e. race wheels and such) easily cost me in the mid-4 figures, and I know guys that approach 5 figures. But I guess that's my point to some extent. I wouldn't dream of going to Wally-world, buying a $200 bike and then stripping it down only to build it back up with high end equipment. Either way the RC boats are pretty cool, there's a guy in our marina with one and I see him from time to time blasting that thing around... looks like fun, but I've only got so much disposable cash!!
