I have what appears to be a quick disconnect on the side of each of my risers. I think this is where I would hook up to to flush the raw side of the system but I'm not certain. also not sure if the boat has to be running with the sea cocks closed or open or whatever... Thinking I better ask before just pumping water into my blocks not 100% sure where its going lol. Can someone provide some information (drawing /diagram perhaps) so that I can better understand how the raw water side of my closed cooled 6.2's works... I did manifold and risers last spring and want to be sure i keep up on it...

Thanks!

Those connections are for flushing with the motors off.
You're suppose to remove the blue plugs on the bottom of the manifolds close the sea cock and flush for 15 minutes into the bilge.
Google merceriser horizon manual you will be able to find one and print it out.

If you have something that has a standard hose connection and 4 blue hoses going to the engine and manifolds GET RID OF IT. In theory , you would be backflushing the system. The problem occurs when the fittings are clogged with rust ,scale, gunk. Plus with this system. the clogged fitting do not allow you to drain the motor and manifolds
As far as flushing the manifolds ,lack of run time does more damage than using it and leaving the water in it.
Without knowing exactly how your plumbing is designed, you could fill the cylinders with water and cause a hydrolock condition

Are the manifolds included in the closed cooling
Are the manifolds wet or dry joint, and warm or cold cooling
Do you have single point drain, gravity or air operated
the engine serial number would be usefull too

Here's what I had on my 320DA (see post #52):

Read this old thread from the the beginning, it'll give you good ideas.

Thanks for helping me out here...

I manifolds are part of the fresh water side...
they are dry joint. still a little fuzzy on the warm or cold cooled systems.
I should be able to post the serial#'s this afternoon. they are on my home computer...

Alex i was reading that post where you describe the manifold you created. i think im going to do the same thing on my boat... where did you introduce the water back by the blocks? near the strainers? I have a t block installed at my strainers as per Rons recommendation for winterizing ease... the 3rd port just has a block off in it at the moment. i could probably just remove this block and plum in the hoses... is that what you did?

did this set up ever give you any issues? Thanks again!

As you can imagine it's been many years, but I remember few things on the project. Regarding the connecting point, my boat had factory installed flushing kit , where a garden hose fitting was sitting on top of each engine. So, I figured why re-invent the wheel and simply purchased the quick connect fittings from Marine Max. Thus, my lines from the stern locker went to the those garden hose fittings. I don't remember exactly where Merc/SR connected the hose on the bottom.

I just re-read what you've posted in the first post and I think you might have exactly the same flushing kit setup.

My setup worked like a charm and I loved the simplisity and ease of use. I never had a single hickup with it and I'm sure it lived long after I sold the boat.

ok thanks Alex... yea thats what i thought they were but Boat DR has me slightly concerned...

Boat DR here's my serial#'s thanks again! Model: MX 6.2 MPI Serial#: PT-OM317474 / ST-OM317480
