I use the Navionics app for my iPhone/iPad to plan trips and take advantage of the auto-routing feature which takes into consideration your draft and clearance and plots your course automatically. I struggled with getting the routes/waypoints to export/import into my Garmin 741xs and figured I would share the steps I take. The outcome is a clean data export with waypoints named appropriately and a complete route to your Garmin.

*You will need the Garmin BaseCamp software installed on your PC.*

1. E-Mail the route from Navionics and save to PC. Make a list of points you are entering as the route names don't transfer to e-mail.
2. Import to Garmin BaseCamp.
3. Right click the track and create a route from the selected track, re-name route and delete the track.
4. Export selected route (from file menu, one at a time) and save as GPX file.
5. Edit the GPX file using a text editor if you would like to name your waypoints. For example, if I am plotting a course to Portsmouth Harbor I will do a find/replace on the default route name in the file, i.e. Route001 and change to PH for Portsmouth Harbor. My waypoints will show up on the chartplotter as PH-1, PH-2.
6. Copy files to SD card "UserData" and save a copy to PC for backup.
7. Load onto your chartplotter.

Waypoint - Max 10 characters
Route - Max 15 characters
Saved Track - Max 20 characters
