I want to create a blog for an upcoming trip ideally using an easy online service along the lines of Blogger.com (which I used for my last trip). This time though what I really want to have is some kind of device on my boat that will automatically post to a map my current location along with my previous locations (maybe once a day) so that people watching my blog can monitor our progress on a real map. I guess I would link to this map or somehow have it fixed on a specific spot on the blog.

I'm curious if anyone has suggestions of a set of hardware, software/online service to accomplish this?

Regards,
Jason

You can use google Latitude and add that to your blog. It won't keep track of where you've been, but will show your current location. Every time you launch it in your enabled mobile phone, it will display your location in the blog.

Hmm. It also looks like they do have a location history:

but it does seem like this would be a fair amount of work, require others to sign up for Google accounts and/or accept invites, etc. I think ideally I'd just have a device on the boat (even if I pay some kind of subscription) that automatically just posts to a map somewhere each day that I can link to or embed in my blog. Thanks for the tip though, very interesting.

This will send your location about every 10 minutes to a map (I think you can also do a manual locate whenever you want). Anyone can watch your progress easily. Works on land or water.

The only other one I know of is mapme.at

go to sandbarhopper>com and take notes or ask him how he does the helm cam< google earth etc> he is leaving right now ftl_houston so guess you can see a whole week or so of action>

Thanks everyone. I think the spot is almost exactly what I'm looking for, except I want to keep a real blog about my trip and the Spot Adventure site just lets you have a small adventure summary (they call it a Blog but it's really not the same thing as a blogger.com type blog, which is what I used for my last trip). Probably I'll do both, keep a real blog on Blogger.com and just link that to my Spot Adventure map which will have the tracking and related pictures.

Thanks again,
Jason
