How strong is the Tow Eye

Looking at that hole, there wasnt a proper backing plate installed. id bet he tried to tow a jet ski or another boat from there....

I just dont see how 600-800lbs in a tube could pull out mine. Its thicker fiberglass with a backing plate. I just dont hammer it with a tube on the back though, but never have had any problems. Id be confident towing anything my boat could pull without lugging back there.

I've been pulling a three-person tube with our 280BR this summer, with no sign of damage to the ski-tow hook. I was a little leery of it at first, but it seems to be mounted pretty solid.

That being said, I certainly don't, and won't, hammer the throttle when I take off, I just ease it up to speed. It's not like I'm pulling a skier, and I don't want to pitch the kids right off the back.

I will also say, that the ski hook mounts on our 280 are lot wider than what they did on that Chaparral. The hook is on a bar that is probably two feet long, and mounted at the ends, where the Chap looks like they're only 6 inches apart. That may help spread the load a lot better across the transom.
