I have this scrap on the side of my boat,Its not bad but little things like this just bother me. How do I go about fixing this?
Ive used marine tex before I thought about just smearing it over the scrap to fill and conceal. But I see these small gel coat repair kits im guessing this would be a better application for my needs but I never used that stuff. Is it as easy as marine tex just mix it up and apply? Or is there a better methos then both of these?

I also have a chip on the keel a little smaller then a dime, looks like someone might have hit it with the anchor when pulling it up but what should be used in there?
The pic here is kinda crappy and makes it look much worse then what it is,and thats not a crack up and to the right just some frozen water. Its just that chip.

Quit4's link is a great one. I had all sorts of scratches from PO and my own (learning how to dock). I also had one on the keel in the same area from a drunk boater passing my docked boat (quarter size).

I ordered the pint from Spectrum Color and went to town using their directions. There are some good videos on You Tube on gel coat repair that helped as well.

The pint is nearly full still but have plenty for the future dings. The repairs are not noticeable. First time working with the stuff too.

Good luck and post pics.

so the spectrum I could just clean the area of the scratches and smear in and let dry no need to paint? Its just going on the white hull.
lol,I wish I could start working on it now,,but we have a snow blizzard going on now :( Im just making my to do list journal and things I will need for each project

No need to paint. It comes in different colors. You probably need artic white.

I had good luck the first time w/ the arctic white gel coat when repairing minor dings like these. Mask the area. Clean out all loose bits and smoth the ding w/ Dremel tool. Clean/dry it with acetone. Mix the hardener into the gel coat. Use less hardener the first time so you'll have longer working time. (Using too much hardener also causes pin holes in the gel coat as gas bubbles are formed.) I used an artist's palet knife to apply the stuff. Use a hair dryer to help speed up the curing time. Sand, wet sand, polish, wax, admire.

So the only place to gte this is to order it from somewhere, cant just get it at west marine or anything?

I believe spectrum colors provides the gel coat to Sea Ray. You could get the color code from sea ray or Spectrum Colors and get it duplicated at your nearest gel coat supplier.

Good luck!!.

Here..... http://www.spectrumcolor.com/

But you will need to call Sea Ray and get the gelcoat color code for your boat. Make sure you have your HIN (hull ID number) handy when you call.

Others have stated that you do not need this info from Sea Ray, but I just ordered some (came today) and was directed to Sea Ray by the Spectrum sales rep to get the color code.

Spectrum stated that they had 5-6 different shades of arctic white for my boat year.

I'll try to post some repair pics.

One trick, I learned from this site: Try using a piece of wax paper and roll a "D" battery over the repair to get the Air bubbles out, very easy. Made 2 repairs about the same size for the first time and it look great. JG.
