How much time in the boating season did you lose to maintenance issues?

It is the nature of boating, boating and breakdowns go together. It is one thing that the breakdowns will hurt you wallet, but the other drawback is the amount of time you lose in the already short boating season.

This year I had three issues with our 06, all were covered by the warrant, but for three weeks of the season I was not able to use the boat. I guess I would feel much worse had I been paying for the repairs, but the summer went by fast enough. I hate losing the time while my boat is up on blocks!

Zero lost time for me. Lots of warranty work last winter and a bit of work this season during off times scheduled around my use of the boat.

Bill, what did you need done that took 3 weeks?

Three different issues, time was used for parts to be ordered.

1: Starboard engine, fuel pump relay and socket burned up, ordered and replaced entire engine wiring harness.

2: Exact same thing on the Port engine several weeks after the first issue. The fuel pump relay and socket burned up, ordered and replaced entire engine wiring harness.

3: Starboard engine, water pump.. this only took 3 days.

Everything has been running great now, keeping my fingers crossed

So far, none due to mechanical issues. Due to mother nature... Almost half the season.

None. Zero time lost. Gotta love not having smartcrap or sterndrives!

Best regards,
Frank

To maintenance/repairs: Zero time.
To a basketball tournament: One weekend in march.:smt009
To a colleague's wedding: One weekend in August.:smt009:smt009:smt009
Other than, it's been non-stop since March 15th.

No lost time due to the boat. The only thing that broke was an Air conditioner trigger module. Fixed it while I was boating. Everything else was maintainence and I did that myself at the dock. My lost boating hours were all related to personal issues at home.

Lots over worn out sensers. The TPS, IAC the tough one to figure outthe temp senser in the exhaust manifold. It was throwing all kinds of weird fault codes that masked that one. If you have 8.1s watch out for that senser. The motors have 1800 hours on them so I guess it was time for something to happen. First problem with them. Lost 6 weekends! The issue was the boat had to run 2 to 5 hours before the problem would show itself. Then the computer would show other codes due to the Guardian kicking in.

No lost time. We've put about 140 hours on so far with more to go. The maintenance stuff gets done in January and February.

I think I lost more boating time due to weather and other commitments then I did to either maintenance or failures. Given I just purchased this boat last December, I expected some down time and tried to fit it in around good boating weather.

So far this year I've done: 2 oil changes on each engine, replaced all spark plugs, plug wires, distributor caps/rotors, one coil, one fuel pump, one carburetor, 2 water pumps, changed gear lube twice, replaced one starter, replaced all fuel lines, fuel water seps, adjusted timing on both motors, flushed fluid on trim tabs, flushed power steering fluid, cleaned flame arrestors, cleaned up wiring all over boat and added additional non-skid paint to cockpit and swim platform.

Whew....I know I'm forgetting something...

So far, the SeaRay has been fine this year. Thank goodness. The main jetski had two mechanicals this year, and I have lost two JetSki weekends.

Last year. . .different story for the SeaRay. Spent half the season chasing an overheat problem. Plus blew a starter. Plus wrecked a raw water pump. Net boating time lost: two full weekends -> and two trips home at idle speed. Also lost two half days at work and incurred two haulouts.

Cost two trips home at idle speed, one weekend out of water, two round trip haulouts, and two half day's off of work dealing with mechanics

One weekend for me, but it was prior to launch. Two bad idler pulleys were found on recommissioning and I had to wait for parts.

Had a couple issues last year but they were taken care of during the week so no time lost.

No time lost for me :)
Other than one wedding on a Saturday....
You really can't miss your brother's wedding though.

Zero lost time for maintenance issues. The weather however has been another set of problems...
Frank

Same here.....Rainy portion of June, July and part of August. But having no issues on the days where it wasn't raining was priceless!

Hack4allivin......

Look at the bright side...You are all set and ready to go next boating season...The engines should purr.....kidding....no lost time...any problems get resolved during the week by my marina....drop the boat off on Sunday night and I am reeady to go by friday...

100+ hours no maintenance/services issues, grounded once, my own dumb fault, out of the water for about a week.

Knock on wood, for 2+ seasons straight all repairs have been elective, not necessary

the best part about owning a boat in texas could be the weather. vast majority of the year we are able to take the boat out.

This season i've missed zero hours due to boat related issues.

Just a blown impeller this past weekend on the Generator but didn't keep us from continuing our Labor Day long weekend outing... Was able to fix it early this past week, the only thing keeping us off the water this weekend is Hanah!!! :smt013
