Had an overheating problem with my 195 Sport (4.3L MPI). Dealer left me a massage saying there is sand in the engine clogging some passages. Where would sand accumulate on this motor? Any estimates for how many hours of labor I'm in for??? Be gentle :smt009

Sand accumulates when you run the drive into a sand bar and it gets sucked up when pulling in cooling water. If it's in the water, it gets sucked up into the motor. That is the reason you always flush your motor even when using in fresh water because of the sediment that is dragged in. No, flushing does not remove all of it and over a fairly long period of time motors do sucomb to the residue left in the corners of the housing and cause the over heaing. How many hours do you have on your boat and the types of water can have a lot to do with those issues. A bad impeller can have the same effect. :smt009

Thanks for the reply.

Boat has 35.5 hours on it. The problem appeared the first time I took the boat out after the dealer summerized it. I have primarily run it in fresh water. Ran it in salt 3-4 times last season. Never had any heat issues last season.

With only 35 hours on the boat and if you have not ground the stern drive into the sand how did the dealer come to the conclusion you have sand in the motor? :smt017
