A fellow mariner at the marina today read me into the fuel tax rebate for Virginia...17.5 cents/gallon for fuel and 16 cents/gallon for diesel. Saw the form on the VA DMV website

http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/pdf/ts217.pdf

This can't be real...a state gov't agency willing to give back some tax revenue??? Guess they can afford it now that they have imposed some serious fines (civil penalties?) for speeding (in addition to the ticket fee...you can get slapped w/ a 1k penalty if you're a state resident. Transients won't get the additional penalty).

Is this something where you just tally the summers receipts and submit in the fall? Could be a nice little check to take the Admiral to supper somewhere...

The state of washington does this and this state has one of the highest taxes on gas.

I have sent in my rebate for years.

Maybe I've been missing out but with the diesel I buy, it is off road diesel and my assumption was there was no tax on it to begin with. I looked at the form you posted and it doesn't say anything about that... but I can't imagine VA would refund money on fuel if no tax was included when you bought it... but who knows...

This is really old news ... many states do this ... I do file in VA ... takes about three months to get the money, but it is about $150 refund for us each year ... make sure to keep gas dock receipt stapled to your CC stub and file all of them with the app ...
