ok now i need to find out how many blade should i take 4 or 5 my boat is 1990 sea ray 180 open bow. if i use same pitch like 19

More blades = more oars in the water. More blades = more drag.

Which engine? I would not stray too far from the factory-specified propeller, or else you are wasting the engineering effort to match the engine and propeller to the boat. The first equation says your low-speed pulling power is better with more blades. The second equation says your top speed and fuel economy suffer if you add more blades than you really need.

I actually found a High-5 prop to be superior to the 3-blade Vengeance on my '98 210BR/5.7EFI. But, I would agree with Springer for the most part - especially smaller engines. The most efficient prop would be a one blade... but that may present some other problems... :smt001

In my experience, it's more of a "trial and error" thing. Until you try a particular wheel on a particular hull and engine combo, there's no way to positively know.

Slavka, you're not giving us much info on what you want to do with a new prop. Did you try Merc's prop selector online? Have you researched this at all on this forum? There's quite a few discussions about this topic.

I found that the high-five worked well in my favor as well. I did use the stock 3 blade and changed to the 5...having run the boat with both allowed me to see first hand the difference.

Well the book sas

Well the book tells me that for my boat the prop should be 13.75x21 and the boat is 1990 sea ray 180BR with 4.3 mercuiser motor and alpha one gen1 outdrive. and i have right now 14x19 and i am almost at my WOT witch is should at 4800 and i am around 4500. And what i am trying to do is find the prop for booth skies and tubing and cruising and i wad thinking to go with 4blade 14x20 what do you think???

You're going the wrong way. If you go up in pitch, your RPM goes down.

Are you "trimming up" as far as you can go when WOT?

Do you not like the 19" prop?

The best overall prop will be the one that gets you into your WOT operating range of 4400 - 4800. Which is where you are now.

Maybe you need two props? A lower pitch one for watersports.

Keep your WOT in the range I mentioned above and you're safe. Where you trimming up?

Try using the search tool (under the big boat at the top of the screen)

I did a search for "what prop" and selected "titles only" and it returned a number of threads that could help you. You can search other terms, too.

I have the 180 bow rider but with the 3.0 4 cylinder. I boat in Utah at about your same elevation or higher. I use a 19 pitch high five stainless almost exclusively after trying about 10 propellers. I also have a high five 21 that I use for cruising. The 19 pitch gave me about the same RPM as a 3 blade 19 pitch and the five bladed props are smoother and keep me on a plane at lower mph which is great for towing things. I lost approx 3 mph on the top end with the five bladed props. I am thinking about buying a 17 high five as well for times when I am heavily loaded.

I have a 99 210sd with a 5.7 efi motor 1.62 gear ratio. I run a High Five 17 for play high five 19 for cruise. Awesome prop. I have tried a lot of combinations but love the High Five.
