How long is your freshwater season?

What's with all this winterization talk. I just returned from 4 days in San Francisco, made reservations for November and will make it to at least one Christmas Parade.

At the risk of being lynched, I like the winter break.

By the end of the season with the kids back in school we are ready to do other stuff.

Over the winter I do various projects on the boat. We are also into other hobbies, other things need maintenance, family gets visits, Packer parties, etc.

By spring we are refreshed and missing boating.

If we were in a 12 month a year boating location we may grow tired of boating.

Now, for all you salties... I guess you can say what your season is as long as you don't rub it in too bad.

"How long is the boating season where you live? I'm talking about freshwater."

I would say it never really ends. There may be a few weeks we don't go out but with Christmas parades and everything I am usually there everyday. Don't get me wrong it gets cold but with canvas up and heat on in the cockpit it is not to bad.

I agree 100%. I LOVE boating so much that I created an app for it (shameless plug -- www.boatingcafe.com -- check out the redesign!) I think I would take boating for granted if I lived in a year-round climate. Or my boating activities would be different. A lot of people in the northern Midwest have cabins and for us, our boat is our cabin. When winter rolls around it's nice to take a break and do other things. This is my first year with heated indoor storage and I am looking forward to some winter projects.

We plan to continue boating as well. I'm hoping this winter will be more "normal" than last season. I did break down last winter and do a full winterize when the first threat of snow came in before Christmas. Left it winterized until first of March. I will monitor the weather and take action when the first real big cold snap comes. Else, bilge heater is ready to go.

Last weekend ranked as a top-five weather weekend on the boat for us. Perfect temp, nice breeze, and no sweating. Can't believe more people weren't out.

Mid- May to end of August, might stretch to mid Sept. in a very warm fall.
Boat has been in the driveway since Sept.03/11. We pretty near had frost-bite that day on the water.

Usually by mid May till mid September. After September getting ready for duck season and pull the duck boat by December 1.

Gettin ready to put on the issenglas this weekend and bring down Mr. Heater. TVA Drops the water in Mid November but still plenty of water at Watts Bar. I try to get out at least once a month and am on year five of boating every month. Last winter was tough though, a couple of Months last Winter all I could do was take the Zodiac out past the no wake zone, that counts tho right? Most folks here shut it down after Halloween and begin Late March.

Apr 15th to Oct 15th. That will soon be changing. . :smt001
