How far do you drive to your boat?

53,000 members sir, yawn.

So how does this end after we know everyone’s commute ?....

We trade boats and see if the commute becomes more tolerable?

Example:

I get someone’s 42 worth a half a million and drive six hours to use it and one of you poor bastards gets to be 8 miles away from my 38 year old battle wagon.

I don't live on the water, but my neighbor does. I docked my Penn Yan at my neighbor house for 10 years. Walking, about 3 minutes. Spent the last 10 years in Moriches Bay. Average depth... 3 feet! Really! Just bought Civility this past October and it was docked on the Peconic River which leads to the Peconic Bay. We're keeping her there again this year. 20 minute drive and new places to explore! Foot of snow today! SUCKS! I HATE NY IN THE WINTER. Bought my new water heater and cockpit carpet, transducer for my garmin, new cabinet hardware... Just spending money until she floats in April. I CAN'T WAIT!

PIZZA!!! You Forgot Pizza!

And Italian ices.

I boated Moriches Bay for a few years and wasn’t crazy about it.

I did spend my entire childhood boating in Peconic and Shinnecock and loved it.

Check out a beach just east of the Girl Scout camp called East Landing. On a chart you’ll find it out in front of Squire’s Pond.

That’s a part of the Island I really miss.

240 miles from my driveway to the door to our condo. 3.5 hours. Unfortunately most of it is on one of the busiest truck routes in the midwest, so it can be stressful sometimes. Once at our condo, it is 30 seconds from our door to the dock. Lake of the Ozarks is an hour closer, but not nearly as nice or clean. Worth every minute.

Here's the view from my summer place. That's shallow beach and open Georgian Bay. No way to have a dock so the boat is 13 minutes drive from there. But we love the beach. And we have virtually no mosquitos. Only a few at dusk and not enough to use bug spray except in spring.

Did you get the rip rap job finished?

I did. Quite the job. Here are a few pictures with explanations.
This is what it looked like before they started. This is not in front of our place, but our neighbors. The gale storm the day before the started cut another 8 feet of dune away. For perspective that waters edge is 80 feet closer to the cottages from when we bought in 2001.

This is mid construction. We had them restore some of what was lost and put the boulder wall closer to the water. Each lot took about 500 tons of stone.

This is what the front of the wall looks like with the natural stairs they built in. Eventually when the water recedes, the sand beach will return. It already started in a day or two as you can see at the base. Not yet the 80 feet of nice sand beachfront we had a few years ago..

And this is what the view is from the cottage now. They top filled all the stone with smaller stone, then filter cloth on top and a few feet of sand on top of that. We like the natural look so its not landscaped down by the dunes. I hated to do the stone wall, but I didn't want to lose more property. Our septic bed is right under where the fire pit is. Getting to close for comfort.

Calgary to Anacortes about 650 miles. We grow grain, raise cattle and pump oil. Not much water in Alberta
Takes 11 hour. OK when the border was open; but now we can not go to boat.
